On this cooking holiday, chef Helmi Smeulders will host a cooking week on Curaçao. Apart from the crystal-clear water and white beaches, the island offers a rich and tasty culinary experience for foodies. With her rich historic past and different cultures, Curaçao serves as an amazing platform to explore the Caribbean kitchen. Helmi shares her passion for the Caribbean kitchen by taking you on a culinary tour where cooking, eating, and exploring are at heart. You will visit the famous floating market, get hands-on cooking classes with Caribbean product and go on an adventurous culinary tour to the salt-pans to pick wild sea purslane.
You'll be staying at Boho Bohemian Boutique Hotel. In the heart of popular Pietermaai District, Willemstad, Boho Bohemian Boutique Hotel provides a laid back and beautiful retreat that calls to the gypset with a love for all things bohemian.
The hotel combines comfort with a boho interior in the most instagrammable neighborhood of Curacao. Within walking distance are cozy cafes, delicious restaurants, coffee shops, a gym, cinema, boutiques and a hair salon, just to name a few.
Boho Bohemian Boutique Hotel has nine rooms and a small cozy courtyard with jacuzzi. Your boho room is provided with a comfy bed, spacious kitchenette and a beautiful bathroom. All the rooms are decorated with a unique, personal touch by the owners.
Late afternoon, you will check in at the charming city hotel (or apartment) where you will be staying this week. In the evening, you will get to know the other participants during a welcome happy hour.
In the morning, you'll go on a food tour through the historic Punda district to learn all about Curaçao’s traditional cuisine. You will stop at the famous floating market for some groceries, taste different local snacks and visit the “Marshe Bieu” for an authentic local lunch. After lunch, you’ll head to the cooking studio for the first cooking class. You’ll use the fresh ingredients from the market to prepare a light and delicious dinner.
Today’s theme is fish. You will get to know various types of local fish, how to clean them and different ways of preparing them, like ceviche and grilled fish in banana leaves. You’ll end the class with a delicious lunch. The rest of the day can be spent at leisure.
Today, you'll go on a culinary tour around the island. You’ll explore the ancient salt pans, pick wild sea purslane and edible flowers, and visit some culinary hotspots. After lunch, you’ll stop at one of the island’s beautiful little bays for a refreshing dip in the sea and get a chance to catch some sea urchins.
Today is meat day. Besides working with various kinds of meat, you’ll also be experimenting with spices and rubs. Afterwards, you’ll pack up and head to a deserted beach for a barbeque. Don’t forget your snorkeling gear!
In the morning, you will start the preparations for a festive dinner. You’ll have lunch at a trendy farm-to-table restaurant situated in a former plantation house. After lunch, you’ll get a tour around the property. In the evening you’ll have a farewell dinner at the cooking studio.
After breakfast, the time has come to check-out and say goodbye.
