Tired of dieting which has no obvious results? Want to improve your way of living and be healthy? Then join Green Mountain at Fox Run. We are committed to help our guests learn how to cook healthy dishes, eat and leave healthily. We also help our guest on how to sustain the healthy lifestyle they will learn about during their holiday with us. Our behavior, fitness, and nutrition offerings are designed to complement and reinforce each other. Each week, new topics are introduced to provide deeper insights and practical strategies for motivation, lasting change and integrated health.
In 1973, Thelma Wayler took over an empty dorm at Vermonts Green Mountain College to found the countrys first and only residential weight loss program exclusively for women. A visionary, Thelma knew diets didnt work almost forty years before the idea became accepted as it is today. Today, Green Mountain operates out of a former ski and corporate retreat on a hill overlooking Okemo Mountain and the Okemo Valley Golf Course.
Set on 26 wooded acres, the retreat is a low-key, relaxing retreat with informal classrooms, well-equipped physical activity rooms, a spacious dining room, and a comfortable living room. Thelma helped women lose weight by providing a powerful experience of eating well, movement and positive thinking - the basis of our Integrated Health Model.
Most importantly, she fostered the freedom to make choices based on what we want, not on what we feel we should. We continue to teach women that making free choices, and then accepting the responsibility for them, is at the core of success in achieving goals in any area, including weight management.
Thelma instituted a healthy weight loss program based on science, not fad, and we have always operated under the direction of a highly professional team. Today, our staff include experts in nutrition, exercise physiology and emotional health like registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, mental health professionals, physician and an expert in human metabolism, professionals in the nurturing arts, including yoga and massage therapy.
The atmosphere is one of relaxed camaraderie, and the emphasis is on informal, healthy living rather than pampering, although massage and other amenities are available. Up to 40-45 women can be accommodated in single, double and triple rooms. In this way, we can offer a more personalized experience that facilitates the development and planning of effective strategies for long-term success.
For busy women who want to practice their new skills and develop a plan to take home. The core of the program has remained similar to Thelma Waylers original vision. The language of intuitive eating and intrinsic exercise has codified Thelmas approach and now we have layered in newer practices:
Our mindfulness and meditation classes help women get in touch with their bodies and what they need. Our behavioral workshops address the new challenges modern women face in juggling careers, kids, and aging parents as well as the non-stop pace of life with technology. Our fitness program complements the hiking and snow shoeing Vermont offers with exercise classes you would find at home, such as Pilates, Zumba, and yoga.
Despite what you may believe about your ability to lose weight from past diets, the truth is, it takes tremendous effort to fight your bodys nature and restrict yourself from food or to exercise just for the sake of burning calories. Diets are simply not sustainable.
At Green Mountain, we help you find your healthy weight by learning how to eat what you want in a way that makes you feel well, move your body for pleasure and well-being, begin to change negative body image, and manage other stress that may send you to food when youre not hungry. Our program helps you overcome the attitudes and behaviors that get in your way, including struggles with emotional and binge eating.
Our facility is on 26 acres of peaceful, private woodlands. Put your stress on hold and take in the inspiring nature of the seasons. Because we are open year-round, you can be dazzled by winters brilliant blue skies and fresh snowfall, or by the eruption of new life and rushing rivers in spring. Summer offers lush mountains and refreshing lakes, and, of course, our spectacular fall foliage is world-renowned.
Enjoy the performing arts? Nearby Weston is home to great summer stock. Vermont is also home to the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater, which takes place each August. If you enjoy shopping for antiques, Vermont is the best. The charming town of Woodstock is center for galleries, arts, and local crafts. And if youre a fan of outlet shopping, Manchester cant be beat.
Perhaps the best way to spend your free time is simply driving around the countryside, shopping here and there to sample all that Vermont has to offer! Farmers markets, auctions, town and village festivals on the Green, thousands of antique shops and craft fairs and centers are all part of the allure of Vermonts magic.
Youll be pleased to discover that healthy eating never tasted so good! At Green Mountain, we serve balanced low-gluten meals that are carefully prepared with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. About 98% of our dishes are made in-house, from pizza dough to salad dressings, with an emphasis on healthful oils, plenty of vegetables and no refined sugars.
Our beef is naturally-raised and grass-fed, chicken is free-range and eggs are cage-free. All our proteins, including tofu and soymilk, come from local New England producers. Produce is organic, when possible, for those items which tend to have a greater pesticide residue.
Gluten-free dishes, also all house-made, are as delicious as our regular menu and available upon request with a slight surcharge. Gluten-free or other special meal plans may also be recommended if you have had an individual nutrition consultation via our Healing with Food program.
Our breakfast buffet includes selections such as a 10-grain hot cereal, scrambled eggs with salsa, veggie sausage, waffles, pumpkin seeds and seasonal fruit.
Lunch features familiar favorites, such as soups, wraps and free-range chicken salad made with a healthful twist, and introduces new whole-grain foods such as millet cheddar cakes and amaranth salad. Asian and Mexican buffets add additional interesting choices.
Nourishing pick-me-ups such as house-made hummus with veggies, fruit smoothies or the ever popular Green Mountain Truffles satisfy at Snack.
