Join GrapeHops Tours for a new adventure in Northern Portugal. This beautiful area of the world is home to several wine regions and a rich cultural and gastronomic scene. GrapeHops Tours are for travelers who love a little culture and activity mixed in with their wine and food experiences. During the tours, you will meet winemakers and food artisans, along with learning about the regions you're going to visit, together with people who love wine and food as much as you do!
You will start the tour and will be staying in a hotel in Porto for two nights, then you will be in a Ponte de Llima hotel for three nights, move on to a hotel in Douro Valley for three nights, and then move back to a Porto hotel for the last night.
The lodgings are, for the most part, comfortable, clean and basic. Hotels and pensiones will have private rooms with bathrooms. There is no single supplement on a GrapeHops Tour. You will have your own bedroom with no additional expense added to the published prices.
You will start out in the city of Porto for two nights, where you will get to know both sides of the Douro river, Porto, and Vila Nova de Gaia, where the Port wine houses are. You will then venture north to the Vinho Verde area, where you will be based for three nights in the town of Ponte do Lima to visit some wineries, towns and sights in this tranquil region.
Then it is on to the stunning Douro Valley, where the grapevines cascade down steep terraces to the river, where you will stay for three nights. The final night will end up back in Porto, for your final meal together.
Some highlights of the trip include a guided tour of Porto with several stops for food and wine, a visit to a Port producer or two in Vila Nova de Gaia, picnics, meals, and/or tastings at several wineries, plenty of lessons on how Port is made and how to taste it, a boat trip on the Douro river, visits to the cities of Braga and Guimarães, and a visit to the prehistoric rock drawings of the Côa Valley.
All planned tastings and excursions are included in the price of this holiday; including:
This wine tasting holiday will be held in Porto, Portugal.
A total of nine breakfasts, eight lunches, and seven dinners will be served, along with picnics, meals, and/or tastings at several wineries throughout the whole course of the holiday. The meals are fun, convivial, lots of food, and lots of laughter. Generally speaking, don’t expect haute cuisine in a quiet room. Expect lots of courses of tasty local foods accompanied by plenty of beverages.
