Boutique accommodations

We focus on boutique accommodations, small family hotels, or guesthouses, which offer something more. Emphasis is laid on the coziness and genuineness of this type of accommodation. While some are traditionally furnished, others are modern. Apart from standard accessories (TV, bathrobe, mini bar), there are also high quality beddings, world trade mark cosmetics, etc.

Extraordinary accommodations

This is intended for those who are driven by curiosity and fond of adventure. Apart from that, you have comfort at a high level of quality. You can choose from a tree hut or sleeping on hay ricks, or camp in wooden huts - all with the comforts you are used to (WC, bath, open-air Jacuzzi), or even stay at a manor in the middle of a vineyard with modern and folksy furnishing.

Thermal spas in wine regions

Stronger emphasis has been put on thermal tourism during winter, enabling pampering in saunas, swimming pools, beauty treatments, massages, health tourism, and the like. You will find yourself in complete relaxation with these 4 or 5 star accommodations and spa facilities.

Day 1: Excursion, farm visit, cheese production tour, food and wine tasting

A guided visit to a fairy tale landscape of Lake Bled.

Snacking on a typical Bled dessert - the Bled cream slice.

Drive with a wooden boat called pletnja to the only Slovenian charming island with a church, where you can rig the famous wishing bell and make a wish.

A guided tour of the boutique family farm, cheese dairy and ripening cellars, where the entire procedure of the production of cheese and other milk products can be observed by the guests. GourmeTravel has selected a special tasting program in the room of dairy and gastronomy with corresponding wines and guided tasting of individual products and cheeses.

Lunch/dinner will be at a family restaurant where you will enjoy fresh seasonal ingredients with the spirit of innovative old recipes.

Afterwards you are taken to the hotel in Maribor/Ptuj.

Day 2: Excursion, wine tasting, free time

A visit to the oldest Slovenian town, the marvellous Ptuj, situated on the banks of the Drava River and beneath the castle hill with a magnificent castle with rich history. In a guided tour of the town you get acquainted with its rich natural and cultural heritage (Roman ruins and monuments, the Ptuj Lake, called the Sea, the castle, and more).

Wine tasting in one of the oldest Slovenian wine cellars (several awards: Decanter, AWC Vienna, San Francisco USA). We will be taken through one of the oldest Slovenian wine cellars and learn about its history. In the wine tasting room there is an old wine press, where you will be shown a video on autochthonous wine sorts. Afterwards wine tasting takes place (5 samples) with snacks.

Free time at your disposal. You can discover the town of Maribor.

Dinner at the renowned top restaurant in the region, tajerska.

Day 3: Cooking class/demo, farm visit, pumpkin seed oil and chocolate tasting

Prekmurje region

A cooking demonstration on an ecological farm with a renowned Slovenian chef (or cooking demonstration/lesson in Ljubljana).

A visit to the farm (sustainable production) and a cooking demonstration: transforming traditional Slovenian dish into inovative traditional food. The cooking demonstration takes place on the farm, to give it a more authentic feel.

Pumpkin seed oil tastings. You will be shown the whole production procedure by oil producers and learn how to distinguish good from bad oil.

Tasting of boutique chocolate with the local, Prekmurje flavor (examples: pumpkin seed oil chocolate pralines, Traminer chocolate pralines, Elderflower chocolate pralines, and more).

Supper in a local renowned inovative restaurant.

Day 4: Honey tasting, excursion

Pamper your senses in the magical world of bees and beekeeping by the tasting of delicacies and learn how honey products can enrich the quality of your life. All products are made in compliance with strict organic guidelines, without pesticides, fertilizers, and genetically modified organisms. They are also completely free of preservatives, colorants, and artificial flavors.

The honey boutique also offers homemade organic jams, products with honey: jam, vinegar, wine, organic pollen, soup, and others.

Departure to one of the most beautiful capitals in the Europe, Ljubljana. It has won the European Green Capital Award for 2016.

A guided visit. We will visit romantic bridges, the castle on the hill, with a view of Ljubljana and its surroundings, the remains from Roman times, the interweaving of different epochs, reflected in buildings (the old town nucleus with its major sights: the medieval Ljubljana Castle, Three Bridges, the Robba Fountain, Park Tivoli).

Day 5: Departure

Bled

The tourist town Bled boasts the only Slovenian island. On one side of Bled, perching high above, there is a magnificent castle. There you can be transferred to the medieval time. In Bled, you can enjoy the numerous gastronomic delights and several outdoor activities (cycling, a trip through the Vintgar gorge, bathing in the lake, playing golf, etc.).

Ljubljana

This is the capital of Slovenia. In Ljubljana you can visit romantic bridges, the castle in the hill with a view of Ljubljana and its surroundings, Roman ruins, and a combination of buildings dating from different historical periods. Ljubljana has entered the competition for European Green Capital 2015, and it has been ranked as one of the four finalists.

Ptuj

The oldest town in Slovenia and boasts one of the oldest wine cellars and medieval castles on a hill. The town is full of remnants, from the Roman times, in many sites in the vicinity of the Ptuj "sea."

Gourmet and traditional cuisine from Slovenia

Despite the fact that we are a small country, we can boast several titles and memberships listed in world-famous magazines, travelogues, and clubs. Slovenia offers to you restaurants and inns owned by members of Slovenian minority in Italy. We are also proud of a Slovenian restaurant owner who has received the one and only Slovene one Michelin Star. Be rest assured, restaurants and inns that you will visit have been chosen on the basis of best quality.

During your gastronomic adventure, we will visit establishments which have been awarded the brand mark Gostilna Slovenija. This is awarded to a certain few who meet the criteria such as having 80 % homemade, local, and traditional dishes and 75 % local to foreign wine ratio. They should also observe criteria regarding seasonal food offer, ecological food, products with protected geographical indication.

Every guest who visits Slovenia has to taste our traditional food. Native Slovenian foods include the Prekmurje layered cake, Idrija pasta squares, the Belokranjska pogaa. Traditional foods include the Krainer sausage, rolled dumplings, Nanos cheese, potica, braided yeast bun, Piran salt, Krainer mead, Prekmurje ham, Karst honey, and virgin olive oil from Slovenian Istria.
