Youll be placed at CasaLana or another cozy and luxurious accommodation nearby. The tranquil river setting and lush gardens at CasaLana creates a natural, relaxing atmosphere for your Napa Valley experience. As you leisurely enjoy breakfast on the patio bordering the river, you will bask in the peaceful quiet. Each spacious guest room in this Calistoga bed and breakfast inn is air-conditioned and has a private entrance, private bath, TV, DVD, in-room coffee and refrigerator. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

Arbor room

As you step through the French doors into the Arbor room, your gaze is drawn upward by the interesting angles of the coffered ceiling and the gently turning fan. The antique furnishings give the room an old world style that feels very comfortable. The four-poster queen bed is so inviting with its featherbed, luxury linens and plush down comforter, you may want to sink right into it.

Palisades room

Linger on the private deck at the entrance to the room as you look out over the Napa River, soaking in the view of the Palisades Mountains. The spacious room is decorated in warm inviting tones and has an ultra-comfortable pillow-top-king-size bed. When you look out of the room's many windows to the gardens below, you may find yourself wanting to take a garden stroll.In both rooms, you can enjoy:

You will work with a variety of cooking methods and techniques as you prepare the recipes each day. The schedule leaves you free time in the evenings to further explore the Napa Valley. The class times shown below include the meals served comprised of the recipes prepared by the class. The meal is served 3-4 hours after the class start time. Please plan to eat something before coming to class.

Day 2

  • Free morning and late evening.
  • 15:00 to 20:00 - cooking class. Topics: knife skills, stocks, ingredient selection and storage, cooking methods and techniques.
  • Group meal is included.

Day 3

  • Free morning and late evening.
  • 15:00 to 20:00 - Cooking class. Topics: recipe concepts, cooking with ratios, balancing flavors, sauces.
  • Group meal is included.

Day 4

  • 11:00 to 13:00 - Cooking class. Topics: flavor dynamics and profiles, sauces: egg-based sauces.
  • 13:00 to18:00 - Excursion. The excursion is determined based on group preferences and availability.
  • Light group meal is included.
  • Free evening.

Day 5

  • 12:00 to 16:00 - Cooking class. Topics: yeast dough, menu planning and entertaining, flavor enhancers, sauces: primary and secondary, recommended books.
  • Optional excursion to a farmers market.
  • Group meal is included.
  • Free evening.

Day 6

  • Departure day.
  • Before you depart, youre free to explore the wineries of Napa Valley.


CasaLana is located in the charming, quaint town of Calistoga, at the top of the Napa Valley. As an historic spa/resort destination, Calistoga is renowned for its geothermal waters and known as the "Hot Springs of the West". The secluded, private setting at this Wine Country bed and breakfast makes it seem as if you are miles away from everything. When really, you're just a short walk to downtown. CasaLana is conveniently located only a few blocks from Calistoga's picturesque downtown area, which offers numerous spas, shopping and world-class restaurants.

The menus may include recipes for dishes such asminestrone Genovese; beef tenderloin with demi sauce; braised lamb shanks; handmade pasta with roasted tomato herb sauce; herbed focaccia; classic crme brulee. Gourmet Retreats also incorporates recipes for classics such as veloute; sauce supreme, rouille; crme brulee, berries sabayon and basic pantry items such as basil pesto, infused oils and much more.

Continue to I-80 West toward San Francisco

Highway 12 West to Highway 29 North

Continue north on Highway 29 through Napa and Saint Helena

Driving directions from San Francisco Bay area

Highway 101 North to Highway 37 East.

Highway 37 to Highway 121 North towards Sonoma.

Highway 121 to Highway 12 East towards Napa to Highway 29 North (Highway 12 is not a well-marked junction. You will be making a right turn onto Highway 12. %If you see signs indicating youre heading for Sonoma, you need to turn around).

Continue north on Highway 29 through Napa and Saint Helena.

Calistoga is approximately 10 miles north of Saint Helena.
