You will stay at various accommodations in Cape Town throughout your holiday. Comfort is the name of the game with For a Day Travel. If you're into hostels and backpacker lodges, we may not be the travel experience for you. The standard accommodation is four-star graded and included in your program fee. An upgrade to five-star for Cape Town is possible at a small additional fee.

All rooms are sharing with another person. For a Day Travel will match you with another same gender participant to share a room with. Each participant has a single bed. This is also why For a Day Travel has chosen larger than usual deluxe rooms and hotels which include separate living room areas and kitchenettes for your comfort.

Cape Town City (standard / four-star hotel)

Day 1

You will have a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Chef 4 a Day

Spend the day discovering the diverse cultures of South Africa through their cuisine. Learn how to make traditional dishes while listening to stories from your local cooks. You will have a short walking tour in the colorful Bo-kaap with a visit to the local spice shop. You are welcomed into the local cook's home in Bo-kaap where you will begin with a Spice Mix lesson. You will then enjoy a two-hour interactive Cape Malay cooking lesson before settling down to a two-course lunch served with refreshments.

Spend your afternoon sampling South African delicacies from local artisans. Taste your way through the rich cultures that make up this rainbow nation. In the early evening, you will put on your apron, pour yourself a glass of good Cape wine and get into the kitchen, this time taking an instruction from a professional award-winning chef.

You will prepare a restaurant-quality, traditional South African meal. Once you photograph your masterpiece, you will enjoy each other's company and your delicious food. All ingredients, recipes, and most beverages, as well as wine, are supplied.

Day 3: Artist 4 a Day

You will immerse yourself in all things creative on this day. From photography lessons at some of Cape Town's iconic locations to ethnic sculpting in the afternoon as well as wine and painting social program in the evening.

You have an early start to capture the golden hour along the coast at one of Cape Town's most Instagramable locations. From here, your photography guide will take you to photograph the penguins at the Boulder beach. You will see how many antelope and baboons you can see as you make your way to the Cape Point with its awe-inspiring news. Your professional photography instructor will assist you with photography tips for your camera at each location.

After your photography tour, you will make your way to a cultural art center where you will be taught how to create an ethnic piece. A perfect memento to take home with you. You will enjoy some curio shopping and haggling for the best price on some exquisite African art.

In the evening, you will get your creative juices flowing by enjoying an wine and painting social evening with friends. A local artist will assist you in creating a painting that you will be proud of. All art supplies, wine, and light snacks are provided.

South Africa's Big Five Artists

  • Irma Stern's Arab Priest: This painting was found in a London apartment. It had been donated to a charity auction by Stern in order to help finance Nelson Mandela's legal defense in the 1950s.

Day 4: Winemaker 4 a Day

The Cape Town is known for its world-class wines so you will explore the region and the art of winemaking with a local winemaker and learn what makes some of South Africa's best wines so good.

You will make your way to the Winelands, a short drive from Cape Town. This area is also known as the Cape Floral Kingdom. It's a UNESCO-listed biodiversity hotspot as it is the smallest and richest of the six Floral Kingdoms of the world. You will meet up with your winemaker who will give you some background information about this 350-year-old wine industry. The oldest outside of Europe.

Your day will be filled with fun wine activities which vary depending on the season. All year round, you will enjoy wine tasting at some of the best wineries, putting your tasting skills to the test. You will try out your winemaker skills by blending your own wines to produce something unique and special. You will pair excellent wines with a fine lunch, fit for a king and queen. For a Day Travel's professional guide will show you behind the scenes and give you the exclusive access to the Cape Winelands wine estates as you explore the beautiful wine region.

South Africa produces four point two percent of the world's wine and is the world's eighth largest wine producer. The country exports an average of 450 million liters of wine per year. The five most popular grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin blanc, Sauvignon blanc, and Syrah. In 1685 Constantia wine was so popular it was favored by Russian Czars, British Monarchs, Frederick the Great, and Napoleon Bonaparte.

Day 5: Volunteer 4 a Day

On this day, you will give back. You will spend your day making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable in Cape Town - children.

South Africa is a beautiful country with so much to offer. But sadly the country has some sad problems that affect the quality of life of so many. As concerned visitors, you will do your best to help, even in a small way to try and make someone's life a little better.

For a Day Travel has developed a donation plan which is built into your experimental travel fees. This donation will be pooled together with the other participants of the group to create a good amount which you will use to help.

In the morning, you will visit a children's home and when you are not all helping with the children, you will be assessing the home's needs. As a group, you will make a decision what the most pressing needs are and together you will either go and make these purchases yourself or you will allocate the funds to a fun activity for the children that afternoon. The afternoon will be filled with activities with the children as you try to bring laughter and joy to their lives.

Day 6: Adventure 4 a Day

Today is a whole day that will be dedicated to just having fun while exploring Cape Town. There will be a range of exciting activities to choose from. Experiences you just won't find anywhere else in the world. You will make your way to the beautiful beaches of Cape Town where you will be introduced to your surf instructor. Enjoy an exhilarating surf lesson and then practice in your own time after your lesson. This activity is included in your program fee and includes the surf gear rental. No experience needed. Challenge yourself and learn this awesome sport, dude!

After a delicious lunch, you will make your way to Table Mountain where you will receive a safety brief, helmets, and gloves then learn how to operate your non-motorised scooters. You will enjoy two downhill runs. Run one is Signal Hill to Bo-Kaap.

One the way down, you will appreciate the views of Table Mountain, Cape Town City Center, Cape Town Harbor, and the colorful Bo-Kaap. On your second downhill run from Table Mountain to Oranjezight, you will enjoy views of Lions' head, Signal Hill, Cape Town Stadium, Blouberg, and the V and A Waterfront.

Day 7: Ranger 4 a Day

This once in a lifetime experience is enjoyed overnight in a Big 5 Wilderness Reserve not far from Cape Town. You will experience an African safari and learn about the conservation of unique fauna and flora from experienced rangers.

You get an early start to the day with an enjoyable scenic drive to the Big 5 Wilderness Reserve about three hours away. Here, you will be met by your professional ranger who will drive you to your bush lunch where you will enjoy a typical safari meal in the surroundings of the African bushveld. Your afternoon will be filled with excitement as you learn from your ranger about African animal identification and the unique conservation and sustainability techniques used by this acclaimed reserve.

After your sunset safari, you will return to your luxury tented camp to freshen up before enjoying a delectable dinner. If the sky is clear, you find a spot outdoors for stargazing as you've never experienced it before. You will discover that the ancient myths of the stories told by the San Bushman people about their visions of the stars.

The next morning, you will enjoy a wonderful breakfast before setting out for another safari. This safari reserve offers a variety of activities at an additional cost such as spa treatments with a view to relax you, safari by the boat, and guided wilderness walks.

This tour will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. You will also get the chance to go see Table Mountain, a 22,000-hectare national park that boasts more plant species than the British Isles or New Zealand, 7,000 found nowhere else.


You will be served breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. When you make your booking, be sure to inform For a Day Travel of any dietary restrictions / requirements or allergies so they can accommodate you as much as possible throughout the program.

If you don't drink alcohol, you can still follow the program. The wine tasting day is about wine-making and the process and experience of this amazing industry. Wine tasting is fun and you can always spit or even choose to enjoy some of the non-alcoholic options.

South Africa's National Dish

Pronounced ba-boor-tea, this delicious national dish is a mixture of curried meat and fruit with a creamy golden topping, very similar to moussaka.

The ingredients are:

  • Two slices of white bread
  • Two onions, chopped
  • 25 grams butter
  • Two garlic cloves, crushed
  • One-kilogram packet lean minced beef
  • Two tablespoons of Madras curry paste
  • One tablespoon of dried mixed herbs
  • Three cloves
  • Five allspice berries
  • Two tablespoons of peach or mango chutney
  • Three tablespoons of sultana
  • Six bay leaves

For the topping:

  • 300 milliliters full-cream milk
  • Two large eggs

How to cook

First, heat the oven to 180 degrees Celcius / fan 160 degrees Celcius / gas. Pour cold water over the bread and place on the side to soak.

Second, fry the onions in the butter, stirring regularly for 10 minutes until they are a golden brown. Add the garlic and beef, stirring well. Crush the mince into fine grains until it changes color. Stir in the curry paste, herbs, spices, chutney, sultanas, and two of the bay leaves with one teaspoon of salt and a good serving of ground black pepper.

Third, cover the pot and simmer for 10 minutes. Squeeze the water from the bread, then beat into the meat mixture until it's mixed well. Tip into an oval ovenproof dish (23x33 centimeters / 9x13 inches and about 5-6 centimeters / 2 inches deep).

Lastly, for the topping, beat milk and eggs with seasoning, then pour over the meat. Top with the remaining bay leaves and bake for 35 - 40 minutes until the topping is set and starting to turn golden color.

Things to do (optional)

Cage diving

Get close and personal to one of nature's most majestic shark species. No scuba gear or diving certification is required as the free-floating cage is attached to the side of the boat. The cage is a six to eight-man cage and groups of divers spend roughly 20 minutes in the cage during their first dive session; thereafter groups can take turns for subsequent dive sessions. Trips are subject to daily weather and sea conditions and start times may vary. Breakfast / lunch, beverages, and a briefing on safety as well as equipment are provided. The excursion will be confirmed 24 hours before. Travel time to launch location is two and a half hours.

Fly in a Hot Air Baloon

Enjoy views of Drakenstein mountain range to Table Mountain in a distance, flying over Winelands. Four to seven passengers in the basket. Flights are weather permitting. Breakfast buffet served after landing. Confirmation of flight is 24 hours before. Location is one hour from the hotel. Transport is included in fee. Participants can still enjoy the Scootours in the afternoon if arriving back to Cape Town on time.

Tandem Paragliding over Cape Town

Enjoy amazing views over Cape Town on a Tandem flight with a licensed SAHPA rated instructor. Take off from Signal Hill or Lions Head depending on the wind direction on the day. Participants who choose this experience may also participate in the surfing lemon on the same day. The flights are weather dependent. The flight will be confirmed a day before.
