Spanish Wine Tasting in Spain

This food and wine tour focuses on the heart of wine growing and gastronomic center of Rioja and Basque country. You visit a range of wineries, all different with their own special features. Wine makers and winery owners will guide you through their estates, explaining their unique wine-making methods and sampling their renowned wines. Silken Gran Hotel Domine, Bilbao

The hotel is located in a beautifully preserved tiny walled town from the 13th century. It has an impressive underground cellar curved in the 16th century which makes it a great spot to enjoy Rioja wine. It also has two restaurants and a spa. Each of the rooms at the hotel has a different decor and includes mini bar, climate control, free Wi-Fi, and plasma TV. Step outside the hotel and you'll get to be like a Spaniard having a very late dinner in one of the tapas bars or people-watch while sipping coffee.


Day 1

  • 08:30 Pick-up from the hotel lobby.
  • You'll start driving along the rugged coastline of the Basque country until you reach an Idiazabal farm. You'll taste this fantastic hand-made aged sheep's milk cheese made only in the Basque Country.
  • You will continue your drive along windswept beaches and picturesque fishing villages to San Sebastian. You will have time to wonder in the little streets.
  • Next, you will have a fresh-caught lunch in Getaria, the famous fishing village.
  • In the afternoon, you will walk in Getaria and the beautiful nearby town of Zarautz.
  • After 20:00, you will arrive at your hotel in the heart of a 13th-century village. You may choose to check it and rest or be like the Spaniards and go for a late tapas evening.
  • Meal plan: breakfast, lunch.

Day 2

  • 08:30 Breakfast.
  • Depart for a wine tour and tasting at one of the renowned, historic wineries in the historical Barrio de La Estacion - railway station in Haro. This bodega not only crafts world class Rioja but also creates its own barrels, something you'll have the privilege to see.
  • Next, you will walk through old quarter, Labastida.
  • Your next visit will be to an intriguing modern winery in Samaniego. The winery is shaped like an empty glass box and, underground, it is split into several different levels.
  • You'll have a tasting lunch at the winery along with 4 different wines.
  • In the afternoon, you will have a wonderful experience visiting a family-owned winery for a vineyards tour and tasting.
  • Free evening.
  • Meal plan: breakfast, lunch.

Day 3

  • 08:30 Breakfast.
  • This morning, you'll embark on a journey to one of the oldest wineries in the world, located in ancient caves and cellars of La Guardia. You'll learn how the wine was made in the past and taste 4 wines after the tour, each one made with a single variety of indigenous red grapes from Rioja.
  • For your lunch experience, you will have tapas, hopping in Logronos famous narrow medieval street, calle laurel, where you will go from one bar to another having a selection of up to 5 pinchos (tapas in Rioja) paired with 5 Rioja wines.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.
  • Meal plan: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 4

  • 08:30 Breakfast.
  • This morning, you'll visit another beautifully restored winery where they seek to keep the tradition and make excellent wines.
  • Next, you will enjoy lunch at an Assador restaurant. This is a Riojan type of BBQ where they cook the meat over the embers of old vines - if weather permits.
  • In the afternoon, you'll go bar hopping at the best tasting rooms in Haro: Lopez de heredia, CVNE and Rioja Alta.
  • Free evening.
  • Meal plan: breakfast, lunch.

Day 5

  • 08:30 Breakfast.
  • Morning group transfer to Bilbao.
  • Meal plan: breakfast.
