During this course, you will be staying in Manor Farm House which is Flora's home, and benefit from the relaxed environment this creates. After a fantastic dinner, students can flop into one of the comfortable, spacious bedrooms, in the happy anticipation that a delicious breakfast awaits them in the morning.

On the University Basics course, students will learn how to cook competently on a budget. Skills taught will be highly adaptable to create a multitude of easy-to-make dishes which taste delicious, at times impress, but don’t break the bank.

You will be in the kitchen from 9:15 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. and then again from 4:15 p.m. till supper. For instance, you may cook a succulent roast chicken with perfect crispy skin. And from the remnants of this humble chicken, shall come chicken pie with billowing puff pastry, or Asian salad, chicken noodle soup, barbecue wraps, Thai chicken curry, or risotto. The possibilities for leftovers are endless and invaluable.

Once the cooking is over, there is plenty of time to chat and you will cover all manner of topics: budget, shopping, health, hygiene, bacteria, bugs, food poisoning and sell-by dates, as well as menu planning, the benefits of a balanced diet, seasonal ingredients, and sugar alternatives. This course is a perfect cookery course for Duke of Edinburgh Gold's residential.

If you want to take it to the next stage you can come back and complete the Learn To Earn course.
