El Refugio is a hotel and restaurant. They have newly renovated rooms that include private bathrooms. All rooms are double rooms.


El Refugio offers a combination of cooking classes and hiking trips. Cooking instruction is performed and organized by Andreas, a Swiss chef learned in the culinary arts of Spanish and local Canarian cuisine. The cookery courses have been designed to suit all students needs and requirements; however, if need be, El Refugio can arrange for any special or additional requests. The culinary focus of the program will be on traditional Spanish and Canarian specialties, tapas and typical national dishes.

You will have a 5-day cooking course under the instruction of professional Swiss chef Andreas. With each of the 5 days that you will be cooking, you will also enjoy guided hikes with a local guide. It is planned to perform a hike at about 10:00 for 3 - 4 hours; subsequent to the hike, you will have lunch. You will start cooking at 17:00 and then the food is consumed at around 19:30.

How to get there

Driving directions from the airport

From the airport, on the highway, take direction Los Cristianos. Depart to Arona / Vilaflor and stay on the main street (direction Teide National Park). Depart to Ifonche and after approximately 3 kilometers, turn left (at the sign "El Refugio "). After one kilometer you'll reach the "El Refugio".
