The hotel provides three large double rooms with private bath and toilet and two of these rooms have a capacity for extra bed. A private room is available for no additional fee, but it limits the number of participants, please contact El Lugar Hotel for details.

Program

Day 1

You will be picked up from Matecaña International Airport (PEI) and will be transferred to hotel. After check-in, you will be greeted with a welcome drink and will be given an overview of the program details as well as a general orientation about Colombia and the Coffee Axis by the hosts.

You will be attending two workshops on baking bread and preparing rimmed salon. You will be served a two-course dinner with two glasses of wine. You may enjoy playing a dart game or take an early rest.

Day 2

Your day will start with a delicious breakfast post which you will proceed for a guided coffee tour, where you will visit a local plantation and see the entire process from plantation to table. You will be trying coffee prepared with different methods.

Your third cooking workshop will include a barbecue at the coffee farm with traditional Colombian meat cuts and fresh fruit, beer, and soda included. Alternatively, you may have a lunch at the hot springs of Santa Rosa de Cabal offering typical trout preparations.

You will return to the hotel at around 19:00, and attend another cooking workshop teaching you the preparation of tropical fish dish with lemon or pineapple ceviche and chili sauce with fresh fruit. You will be served a two-course dinner with two glasses of wine.

Day 3

Today, you will be attending a cooking workshop on poached eggs, post your breakfast. You will then take a guided tour to Filandia a small post-colonial village. You will also visit the mirador (view tower) and can take group pictures in the city square. Lunch will be hosted at Helena a Dentro, a renowned lunch restaurant in Quindio.

In the afternoon you will have another cooking workshop where you will learn how to prepare Lobster tail with coffee caramel, different tropic fruit marmalades, how to make a perfect sauce, plate decoration, and presentation of rimmed salmon as well. You will also smoke your own bacon and will be served a two-course dinner with two glasses of champagne, followed by leisure time.

Day 4

Today, you will go shopping at the local market, post breakfast. You will have a fruit tasting workshop in the hotel and will also join a cooking workshop highlighting the preparation of typical Colombian lunch dishes. Post lunch, you will pay a visit to nature reserve Cauquita and the late afternoon is available to be on your own.

You will attend yet another cooking workshop teaching about the preparation of the perfect Chateaubriand with demiglace, seared pineapple, and selection of vegetables. You will be served a two-course dinner with two glasses of wine.

Day 5

You will be served bacon and french toast for breakfast, today. You will then be taken on a guided tour, agreed according to your preference (culture or museum or city walk or special sites) including a typical lunch. If you choose a tour outside the coffee region, additional road taxes and mileage fee will apply.

You will attend a Nordic-inspired afternoon cooking workshop that will include preparation of honey roasted salmon on grill with a large assortment of local fruit and greens, Danish open sandwiches, and more. You will be served a buffet-style dinner with two glasses of wine or beer. You can relax or join a game of cards, dart, and board games, later in the evening.

Day 6

You will be served a brunch. Post check-out you will be dropped back at the airport.

Included excursions

During this culinary holiday you will be visiting a coffee plantation, hot springs of Santa Rosa de Cabal, the village of Filandia, Salento and the Valle de Cocora, nature reserves in Cauquita, and local green and fruit markets. You will also be offered to choose a tour as per your preference (culture or museum or city walk or special sites).

The cooking classes will be hosted at hotel El Lugar, Pereira, Colombia. Pereira is the capital city of the Colombian department of Risaralda. It is located in the foothills of the Andes in a coffee-producing area of Colombia officially known as the 'Coffee Axis'. Pereira, alongside the rest of the Coffee Axis, forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the 'Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia'.
