Umbria has a very good climate for viticulture, so you can imagine that in the sunny hills of this fertile region excellent wines are produced. During this wine tour, you will have plenty of opportunities to taste Umbrian wines and enjoy the lovely Umbrian medieval towns, and spectacular sceneries.
In Torgiano, you will be accommodated at Al Grappolo d'Oro Hotel, situated in the little historical centre of Torgiano. The rooms have air conditioning, fridge, private bathroom, and are stylishly furnished. From the pool in the garden, you will have a nice view over the Lungarotti vineyards.
At Lake Trasimeno, you will stay in a bed and breakfast inn. This inn is situated in Magione opposite of the castle of the Knights of Malta. There's a swimming pool, gym, bar, and lounge.
You are expected at your hotel, which is very appropriately named - Al Grappolo d'Oro - the golden bunch of grapes. Tonight, you will dine in a restaurant located close by. The excellent Umbrian cookery of the menu degustazione is combined with delicious local wine, a red Denominazione di Origine Controllata (D.O.C.) wine from the hills of Perugia or the hills around Montefalco.
Today you will leave your hotel in Torgiano and will go to another beautiful part of Umbria, Lake Trasimeno, but first you will visit an olive oil mill in Foligno-Trevi. The olive groves in the hills between Trevi and Foligno produce a deep green, fragrant olive oil. All will be explained about olive oil and you will also taste it on a bruschetta. After this it's on to Montefalco. This town has to be visited. You will have a light lunch with a glass of Montefalco Rosso wine. In the afternoon you will visit another wine organic producer in this area (not possible on Saturdays and Sundays).
Following your lunch, this afternoon, there's time to visit Assisi. This lovely town with its fountains, little alleys, characteristic squares, and scenic views will make an unforgettable impression. Don't miss the basilica of St. Francis with the frescoes by Giotto, Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, and Simone Martini. Vineyards in the hills around Assisi produce interesting red and white wines: Assisi Grechetto Denominazione di Origine Controllata (D.O.C.). At 17:00, you will be expected in the wine cellars of a local wine producer, where you will taste his Assisi Grechetto Denominazione di Origine Controllata (D.O.C.).
Today, you will leave your hotel in Torgiano, and you will visit an olive oil mill in Vescia. The olive groves in the hills between Trevi and Foligno produce a deep-green, fragrant olive oil. Everything you would like to know about olive oil will be explained and you will also taste it on a bruschetta. After this, it's on to Montefalco. This town cannot be visited without tasting the wines of Arnoldo Caprai. Unfortunately, his wine cellars can only be visited in a group, but Ecologico Tours can offer you two of his wines, Rosso di Montefalco DOC and Sagrantino DOC in a wine bar in the centre. The wines will be served with some Umbrian tasters. In the afternoon, you will visit another wine producer in this area.
Today, you will discover the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (D.O.C.) wine area around another beautiful part of Umbria, Lake Trasimeno. In the hills, there are about 350 hectares of vineyard with grapes such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Garmay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grechetto, and Chardonnay. Around 12:00, you will visit the wine cellars of Poggio Totone and of course taste their wines. In the afternoon, you can just enjoy the surroundings. Lake Trasimeno is famous for its freshwater water fish, so tonight, you will have a farewell diner to taste this fish combined with a local white wine.
