This short gastronomic holiday is a travel through the culinary tradition of the beautiful Valle Umbra, a fertile valley with many waterways surrounded by a backdrop of green hills covered with vineyards and olive groves. In this valley, the well-known small medieval towns of Assisi, Montefalco, Bevagna, and Spello lie, but also larger cities such as Perugia, the capital of the province crossed by the river Tiber, and Spoleto, lying at the foot of the green wooded Monteluco.
The country house, run by the friendly Carla and Luigi, is a farmhouse dating back to the 18th century. It has been entirely renovated recently, according to the standards of a eco-architecture: the use of natural and recycled materials, and solar panels for energy. There are six apartments of various sizes, a restaurant, garden, saltwater pool, and car park. In the fine dining restaurant of the country house, local products such as truffles, mushrooms, veal, and extra-virgin olive oil are used.
Today, you will arrive at your lovely country house. Dinner in the evening.
After breakfast, you are accompanied to go shopping for the cooking course. After this, you will have free time to explore the area and you could visit the hilltop town of Trevi, the capital of the oil, or Bevagna, a town of Roman origin with a medieval appearance. At the end of the afternoon, you have the cooking course, on which you will prepare dishes from the Umbrian cuisine. In the evening, during dinner, you will taste the delicious dishes prepared during the course.
After breakfast, you can relax in the saltwater pool, but also chose between a day bike tour or visiting Spello and Assisi. At the end of the afternoon, you are expected in your country house for a tasting of wines from the Montefalco area. In the evening, you will have dinner at the restaurant of the country house.
Departure after breakfast.
On day 4, you can go for a visit to Spello and Assisi (unless you choose to go on a bike tour). Please find below the description of these activities.
Spello is proudly built on the slopes of Mount Subasio. The town has well preserved its medieval character and in the old centre you will find a maze of alleys, cheerfully tinted by the plants in flower boxes. The main sights are located in the centre: the Saint Maria Maggiore church with the colorful fresco cycle by Pinturicchio and two works by Perugino, the Saint Andrea church, the city museum, the Roman mosaics and Roman city gate Porta Consolare and Porta Venere.
Assisi is a town where history, traditions and art are fused together in harmony. You can enjoy wandering through the alleys, stepped streets and crossing the squares with many terraces, inviting you to enjoy a delicious Italian gelato or drink a hot cappuccino. There is much to see such as the basilicas of Staint Francis and Saint Clair, the castle, many museums and the forum romanum. You will get a description of a cultural walking tour that takes you along the most important monuments of the city.
Paolo is an expert and meticulous technician, thanks to his years of work in a manufacturing company taking care of every aspect of the functional reliability and maintenance of the equipment. He has 'golden hands', as they say in Italian. He checks over, test rides and cleans the city bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes of Meravigliosa Umbria. If something breaks, needs repairing or simply isn't working quite as it should he manages to put everything right. Paolo loves the outdoors and has an in-depth knowledge of paths, tracks, roads and places in Umbria and in many other regions of Italy.
An enthusiastic walker, who began planning and carrying out short excursions around the Perugia area when he was young. Today, as well as being a trusted member of our team, he is a voluntary guide for local walking groups and for the Club Alpino Italiano, for whom he is a hill walking escort. He accompanied many individuals and groups in the Sibillini mountains and in central Italy in general. Cristiano's passion for walking is combined with an insatiable curiosity for history and anthropology, which is reflected in his deep knowledge about the areas he crosses.
