Paolo

Paolo is an expert and meticulous technician, thanks to his years of work in a manufacturing company taking care of every aspect of the functional reliability and maintenance of the equipment. He has 'golden hands', as they say in Italian. He checks over, test rides and cleans the city bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes of Meravigliosa Umbria. If something breaks, needs repairing or simply isn't working quite as it should he manages to put everything right. Paolo loves the outdoors and has an in-depth knowledge of paths, tracks, roads and places in Umbria and in many other regions of Italy.

Cristiano

An enthusiastic walker, who began planning and carrying out short excursions around the Perugia area when he was young. Today, as well as being a trusted member of our team, he is a voluntary guide for local walking groups and for the Club Alpino Italiano, for whom he is a hill walking escort. He accompanied many individuals and groups in the Sibillini mountains and in central Italy in general. Cristiano's passion for walking is combined with an insatiable curiosity for history and anthropology, which is reflected in his deep knowledge about the areas he crosses.

"We had a fantastic cycle trip through Umbria run by Petra and Paulo who were extremely helpful and encouraging. The cycling was just delightful - through small villages, past olive groves on quiet country roads. Our accommodation was wonderful as were the meals especially Casa del Aqua. Of course, we managed to get lost but that was part of the adventure. Once we were used to the very detailed directions and we found the arrows at relevant intersections, it was all smooth sailing! Thank you, Petra and Paulo, for a very memorable holiday!"

"Really excellent self-guided trip run by a first class small operator (Petra and Paulo). Stunning terrain, mostly in Umbria which is quieter and perhaps even more charming than Tuscany. Accommodation was excellent quality and value. Not over-the-top fancy, but great. Breakfasts was good - usual European style. Generally on our own for dinners and so many incredible choices - Umbria has first class food and wine. Luggage transfers perfect. Directions provided excellent. Relatively challenging rides which we expected. At the higher end of level 3. Terrain is hilly (and gorgeous) which isn't an issue where roads are switch-backed. Tougher when they're not but we managed fine. Best to be in decent shape. We're 60 and in good fitness. Winter training via spin classes helpful. Would be more challenging on hybrids - we upgraded to road bikes and were happy we did, riding with our own shoes and clips. Took an extra day in Orvieto which helped give a recovery day and was very interesting/worthwhile. Lots of history and art along the way. Great trip!"

"In September 2015, we did a self guided walking tour from Assisi to Spoleto, and we loved it. It was our first walking tour and it was self guided, so we were a little nervous. Petra was fantastic right from our first contact. She was very helpful with all communications and gave us great advice. The walk was brilliant; it was very interesting. Each of the medieval towns we visited was very beautiful and the instructions were easy to follow. The hotels we stayed in were great along the way."

"Paolo and Petra run a first-rate operation. We didn't know what to expect when we booked a self-guided six-day, 40-mile-per-day, bicycle trip around Umbria. As it turned out, it surpassed our every expectation. So here are the great things you can expect from these folks. Firstly, there were fantastic bikes; I had a brand new Bianci, and my fiancé had a really good Bianci too. His was super-big (he's 6 feet and 4 inches). They handled perfectly. We were amazed to get such great bikes. They came with absolutely everything we needed: panniers, odometers, front pouch, emergency gear. The planning for the rides was superb. Every little turn was written down for us, with descriptions of elevation gain, whether there were groceries or restaurants on the way, etc. We only got lost once, and that was in a very tricky area with no signs. Hotels were exactly as advertised. We chose three-stars hotels, and these were just fine. Breakfasts were hearty enough to sustain us. The routes were challenging, but doable. We are relatively fit people in our early 60's, and were able to do the 40 miles, even with difficult hills. We were exhausted at the end of the day, but that's what we wanted. The routes included the key towns in the area, in terms of beauty, history and museums. Later, when we went to a museum in Rome to learn more about the Etruscans, we discovered that we had been to the highlights on our bicycle tour. We are already planning another trip, hopefully with Ecologico Tours. You can absolutely trust them. Thanks, Paulo and Petra, for a dream vacation."

"Our local touring company, EcoTours, showed up on time to give us the bikes, maps, etc. Paulo was very warm and explained it all to us with a charming Italian accent. Later, we also met Petra, the owner of EcoTours, she is from Holland and we can’t be more grateful to her for having created such a beautiful bike route in this thriving part of the world. EcoTours provided a great map with directions and they also placed stickers with arrows signaling the route along the way; That was very helpful and fun to find and follow. The route was marvelous: quiet paths covered with the shade of lush trees, birds chirping, many olive orchards, small homes with colorful gardens, road shrines, rows of cypresses, stone houses with vines creeping their windows, dogs barking from their homes (dogs were always inside their homes, so we didn’t have to worry about them chasing our legs while in the bike!), and of course, the queen and king of this landscape are the vineyards. Bring your camera!"
