The charm of Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon) is endless, and this program is the optimal opportunity for all foodies to discover the city through its cuisine and gastronomy. The food in Saigon is derived from almost every corner of the S-shaped country; that is why people can find the dishes of the north, the center, and the south of Vietnamese there.

In this 5-day holiday, you fully experience the local identities of Saigon and Mekong Delta. In particular, the cooking courses at Vietnam Cookery Center, as well as Ben Thanh Market exhilarate many tourists who desire for the how-to about Saigonese cooking. When the city tour is well combined with the cooking classes, the package can perfectly satisfy the visitors who come for the real charm of this “Pearl of the East.”

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. Take the orientation walk around the center of the city. Dinner at Ngon Restaurant with great collection of authentic local food in Saigon.

Day 2: Cooking class, city tour

This morning you have a cooking class at Vietnam Cookery Center. There is an accompanied tour to the spectacular Ben Thanh market 1 hour before the class. During the market visit your host will describe the classic Vietnamese produce, from fruit and vegetables, to meats and seafood. You will learn how to recognize the different Vietnamese ingredients and be guided in their application. Then you go back to Vietnam Cookery Center.

You will continue with a hands-on initiation to the Vietnamese Cuisine Art, giving you the opportunity not only to learn how to cook them and reproduce them once you return to your home country, but also to taste our delicious dishes. Even inexperienced cook can create tasty dishes within a few hours. Your menu will include salad, one local soup, and braised fish or pork. Then enjoy self-prepared food and those prepared by the restaurant.

In the afternoon, take a tour to China town, the special identity of Saigon. Visit Thien Hau Pagoda, where hundreds of local people come and burn the incense for their luck, prosperity and happiness. The photo of the incense burner taken in this temple was appeared on the first edition of Lonely Planet of Vietnam.

Then you will walk to the street where the movie “The Lover” had been taken with very interesting local cafeterias that very popular to local people. Stop and sample the local coffee at very interesting cafeteria on the street.

Then keep walking to the street that sell all the colorful decoration items for ceremony made from paper. After that, take a walk around Binh Tay, the biggest wholesale market in town. You can find most of the product in town selling in this market. The market was constructed by Quach Dam - the wealthy Chinese man for his community in 1930 and you still can see his statue and his tomb in the central of the market. It is great combination of busy and bustle atmosphere of the market and traditional Chinese architecture there.

Day 3: Excursion, lunch, dinner

This is an ideal option for those who wish to have a real experience on the landscape, local people, and rich culture of the Mekong Delta. The tour will be incomplete without cycling on narrow road along small side canal to visit the local traditional handicrafts.

A 2-hour drive southwest from Saigon will take you to the Mekong Delta, the largest rice basket of the country with friendly farmers who always wave hello when you come across. This tour will offer you a chance to explore the unique lifestyle and culture at the Cai Be land as well as traditional handicrafts on Tan Phong Island. The most special thing about this tour you will feel relaxed and excited while cruising along the river is to take a deeply insight into the great combination of local cultures and sceneries in this gorgeous water way region. It’s all sure to bring you unforgettable moments ever.

Board your wooden charming boat, the Mekong Queen, at Ba Ton’s local pier and start cruising on Mekong River while sampling local fresh fruits, letting the cool breeze touch your hair, you will find the place a truly destination to spend the day relaxing. Leave the boat for a while to visit the local business where you can interact with the local people to learn more about their daily life.

Continue with your boat through the “heart” of the town’s trading activities with lots of lots of floating vendors lining up their boats in the middle of the river with their agricultural products hung on bamboo poles. This is not the biggest floating market but it is good to understand the life of the river, one of the tourist magnets of the Mekong Delta.

Disembark the boat when reaching Tan Phong Island where you will start a very interesting cycling tour through small village shady road. You will be surprised by the way the locals trade and advertise their local products. Ride along the concrete road of 1-meter width, you will take the opportunities to visit local families of making traditional products such as handicraft items made from water hyacinth; house roof made from palm leaves; hammock made from coconut ropes; rice papers; and local hats. After a sad farewell to your crews, enjoy a home-hosted lunch with Mekong Delta specialties at an ancient house before driving back to Saigon.

Note: Motorbike will be an option for those who can’t bike. Guests ride as passengers.

Detailed itinerary:

  • 07:30 : Depart from Saigon
  • 09:30 : Arrive at Ba Ton Bridge and start boarding the Mekong Queen
  • 09:45 : Stop to visit the local rice wine making family (nhà nấu rượu)
  • 09:55 : Continue your cruise to the local rice husking factory (nhà chà lúa thô sơ)
  • 10:30 : Stop for a quick visit of a local brick factory (subject to availability)
  • 10:40 : Board the cruise passing by Cai Be floating market and onto Tan Phong Island
  • 11:30 : Start a leisure 45-minute cycling trip with stops en route to visit the local handicraft making families
  • 12:30 : Embark on the Mekong Queen for a 15-minute cruise to the mainland
  • 13:00 : Enjoy lunch at an ancient house
  • 14:30 : Drive to Can Tho

In the evening, you will have a chance to try all the typical and authentic local food from Mekong Delta in Cay Buoi Restaurant.

Day 4: Excursion, dinner

In the morning take the early boat trip to visit Cai Rang floating market where local people whole sale all product of Mekong Delta. It will be great chance for taking part to the local activities and taking pictures. The boat will take you around the floating market 2 times to make sure that you will have enough opportunities for taking photos here. Then the boat will take you to visit the local bustling inland market where you can see all local products of Mekong Delta selling here.

From the market, take the short ride on boat to the small local alley that you can walk along and experience the real daily life activities of local people here. Take the pleasant walk along the local village by the river bank and integrate with local people there before getting to local Rice Processing Factory. You will know exactly how the white rice had been made from paddy rice in here.

You will meet the car then transfer to Sao Hom Restaurant for lunch. After lunch, you will drive back to Saigon. You arrive in Saigon in the late afternoon. In the evening, enjoy farewell dinner at Indochina Restaurant.

Day 5: Departure)

Morning is free at leisure until transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport for departure flight. Tour concluded.
