Cooking Classes in the Welsh Borders

Cookaway Food Breaks cooking courses are run at Meadow Barn, a beautifully converted "Cruck Barn", at Caldicott Farm, Broad Oak, on the lovely and peaceful Herefordshire, Welsh borders. Meadow Barn offers comfortable and attractive accommodation, with a very functional cooking and food preparation area. The cooking courses are an interesting mix of handling, cooking, and eating locally produced food at its best, using traditional classic recipes.

Learn the skills to cook favorite recipes

Each Cookaway Food Breaks cooking course aims to consolidate as many different skills as possible, with suggestions for the introduction of new flavours or unusual ingredients to create variety, and tempt the taste buds. All the ingredients used are easily obtainable and economical, which makes Cookaway's tried and tested recipes a great favourite when guests return home. Sarah's enthusiastic approach towards explaining recipes is designed to put students at ease and gain confidence.

Kitchen and facilities

The Cooking Courses take place in a well designed farmhouse kitchen open to the full height of the cruck beams above. Demonstrations and food preparation take place round a central island and large table. Each cook has access to pans, knives, cooking utensils, mixers, and shared use of cookers. Aprons are provided. There is a small fridge for guests to store personal items and milk for coffee and tea.

Non participating cooking guest welcome

Non-cooking partners are welcome to share a room with their cooking companions and join in all the meals and, when their partner is cooking, relax in whatever way they wish, for instance by exploring the interesting local area, playing golf, reading a book or walking through the attractive countryside.
