The little farm of Quinta da Marchanta sits on the banks of the River Tejo 15 kilometers from the gothic hill town of Santarem and 60 kilometers North of Lisbon. The surrounding fertile river plains are renowned for vegetable and wine production.

Originally a vineyard, Marchanta has been transformed into a comfortable hotel with excellent equestrian holiday facilities and a swimming pool. The old farmhouse, dating from 1877 is now a four-bedroom hotel, and the vineyard barns have been converted into three spacious holiday apartments together with a communal sitting room and bar with pool table.

There are bicycles available and a table tennis room. The property maintains its old charm with peaceful gardens, an old chapel, dovecote and distinctive water tower. The ancient pilgrim trails to Fatima and Santiago pass by the door.

You will taste Portuguese dishes with the freshest top ingredients. You will also learn gastronomy and visit Ribatejo landscapes and vineyards.

Day 1: arrival

  • Meet at Lisbon airport with transport to the accommodation Quinta da Marchanta
  • After check-in, enjoy a welcome drink with Portuguese wines and traditional tapas

  • Sleep

Day 2: Cooking class

  • 09:00 Breakfast
  • 11:00 Pick up for a visit to Rural Wine Museum - Wine tasting - olive oil and region bread tasting
  • 13:30 Lunch
  • 16:00 Starts your cooking class with Cook2Wine professional chef Madalena Dias
  • Dinner followed based on workshop effort, paired with selected Ribatejo wines
  • 23:00 Return to your accommodation

Day 3: Wine tour - boat trip - Explore the Tejo river, feel the nature discovering Tejo's hidden beauties

  • 09:00 Breakfast
  • Visit a nearby cellar followed by a wine tasting
  • Lunch
  • Enjoy relaxing boat trip, bird watching and visit the Lusitano horse island
  • Learn about the Tejo's fishermen and visit their stilt houses in the river banks
  • Late afternoon snack
  • Return to your accommodation to rest

Bacalhau

Bacalhau is salted cod. Although it is one of the main ingredients in Portuguese gastronomy, bacalhau is imported from Canada and Norway where the colder Atlantic waters are very rich in this fish. You will find that there are thousands of ways to cook bacalhau.

Meat-lovers

Meat is consumed throughout the country. However, the region of Ribatejo is famous for its dishes of brave bull meat and game meats

Bread and cheese

Each country also has its own bread and cheese. Our goat cheese wrapped in charcoal ash is undoubtedly one of the best and most reputed in Portugal.
