Mary was born and raised in the beautiful town of Matera. During her childhood she had many times the opportunity to watch her grandmother and her aunts gather around the kitchen table and prepare traditional dishes and ancient family recipes. She gathered knowledge during the years spent in USA, Milan and Parma. She then puts her passion to use and offers a memorable and mind-opening experience to those who visit this unique town and wish to make the best of their stay, by taking part to a fun and relaxing activity steeped in culture and customs, in a real-family environment.
I enjoyed a lovely few hours cooking, chatting, drinking and eating at Mary's. Made pasta for the 1st time; mine was ok but I rolled it a little thin. A great thing to do whilst in Matera. I was fortunate to be able to tag along with another class as you are not able to do it as a solo.

Mary's cooking lesson was filled with authentic, typical recipes from Matera, in fact from her grandparents. The ingredients were simple but incredibly delicious. Mary and her husband were so gracious and interesting. We spent time cooking, laughing, and learning about the culture and history of Matera. We highly recommend this lesson. Great food, great hospitality and great fun! One of the best experiences of our trip.

We had such a blast with Mary and the family... it was a highlight of our month-long travels in Italy. Matera turned out to be a foodie's paradise so this class complemented perfectly our time spent in this magical city. Loved getting to know her while also nibbling/cooking/chopping. And, oh, that Matera bread! We had multiple courses and a plethora of instruction, but laid back... like hanging out at your friends house (who happens to be a fantastic cook). The highlight was figuring out the secret way to create the cavatelli shape. Our kiddos loved it too -especially the panna cotta. If you go to Italy, go to Matera... and if you make it to Matera, go to Mary's! You won't regret it :)
