I enjoyed a lovely few hours cooking, chatting, drinking and eating at Mary's. Made pasta for the 1st time; mine was ok but I rolled it a little thin. A great thing to do whilst in Matera. I was fortunate to be able to tag along with another class as you are not able to do it as a solo.

Mary's cooking lesson was filled with authentic, typical recipes from Matera, in fact from her grandparents. The ingredients were simple but incredibly delicious. Mary and her husband were so gracious and interesting. We spent time cooking, laughing, and learning about the culture and history of Matera. We highly recommend this lesson. Great food, great hospitality and great fun! One of the best experiences of our trip.

We had such a blast with Mary and the family... it was a highlight of our month-long travels in Italy. Matera turned out to be a foodie's paradise so this class complemented perfectly our time spent in this magical city. Loved getting to know her while also nibbling/cooking/chopping. And, oh, that Matera bread! We had multiple courses and a plethora of instruction, but laid back... like hanging out at your friends house (who happens to be a fantastic cook). The highlight was figuring out the secret way to create the cavatelli shape. Our kiddos loved it too -especially the panna cotta. If you go to Italy, go to Matera... and if you make it to Matera, go to Mary's! You won't regret it :)

From the moment we walked into Mariangela and Phillipo's home, we were made to feel at ease. Mariangela is a fantastic cook and showed us step-by-step how to make traditional dishes from Matera. Making our own cavatelli pasta was a highlight as was the constant conversation with our fantastic hosts. Sitting down to eat our food felt like dining with friends opposed to hosts and we were sad when we had to leave. It has been our favorite activity to do in Italy and I couldn't recommend Cook n'Fun at Mary's more!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our cooking lesson and dinner with Mariangela and her husband, Filippo. Mariangela and Filippo graciously welcomed us into their beautiful home and shared their insights about cooking and life in Matera. We had a wonderful evening with this delightful couple: a most delicious meal and delightful conversation. No better way to learn about and experience a culture than through a private cooking lesson.

My wife and I spent a few days in Matera and we wanted to experience local history/culture and to enjoy the local food... this was perfect for both! Mariangela and Filipo were warm and inviting, and we had great conversations the whole time we were there. Mariangela was a great instructor, guiding us through each step of cooking all the dishes while telling us about local cuisine and how to make the recipes for ourselves at home. She really made what would normally be a daunting task beyond our abilities (cooking homemade pasta!) seem easy and fun. The food itself was incredible - seriously, some of the best pasta we have ever had (and this was not our first trip to Italy)! Every dish, from eggplant rolls with ricotta to the ciambella dessert, was excellent. We would have been impressed with the food if we had ordered it at an expensive restaurant, and to have cooked it ourselves was a real source of pride. For anyone in Matera looking for a fun experience with great food, this is it! Highly recommend!

My kids, our friend and I had a truly wonderful experience learning to cook some delicious Italian dishes with Maria and Filipo. Great people, wonderful recipes, great fun. We started at the market in Matera and bought fresh ingredients and then went to their lovely home. It was wonderful for the kids aged 7, 11 and 15. We made fresh pasta, chocolate deserts, salads, eggplant dish, sautéed mushrooms and picked olives from their trees. Maria and Filipo are wonderful with the kids and the kids considered this day certainly one of the highlights of the entire trip. The lunch was delicious - we want to do it again. Very highly recommended.

Matera is a fascinating, complex place and Mariangela is the perfect guide to familiarize you with its rich history and culture. She is very charming, a native of the area and able to gear her presentations to all levels of tourist’s interests. The Sassi tour was followed by a visit to the local market and a cooking lesson in her home. For us, already quite familiar with Italian cuisine, this was a very informative and useful lesson - laced with lots of background stories and good humor. Bottom line, this experience was certainly the highlight of our visit to Matera. Do not miss it!

We received a warm welcome by Mariangela and her husband Filipe when we arrived for our cooking class in the evening. We immediately felt at home and had fun times and learned a lot about Italian cooking, Italy, the history of Matera and Italian customs. When we left satisfied after a fantastic dinner, we felt that we made new friends :-) Definitely recommended!

My friend and I had a lovely day with Mariangelo and Filipo. First, a tour of the Sassi, then off to the market to buy fresh ingredients, and cooking the rest of the afternoon away while one after the other creation is made. Finally the grand finale by having a meal with this fun and kind couple. Do not miss this class! Its great fun

We arrived in the home of Mary Angela and her husband and were welcomed like real friends. It was a wonderful experience and especially really good and fresh foods. She took in consideration that I was (am) pregnant and that I wasn't allowed to eat certain food groups. Me and my husband would recommend this to everybody who wants to experience the real Italia!

What have we enjoyed a delicious and informative cooking class! We got a lot of information about the history of food and food preparation. After this instructive cooking class we enjoyed our homemade dinner. With delicious matching wines with each course. We're still talking so much about this cooking class :) What a quality time with you Mary! Thank you so much :)

We found Mary's cooking course on Trip advisor and even though there were no reviews, her website and friendly emails convinced us to make a booking. We arrived at Mary's lovely home at 10am and spent the next 5 hours with her.Mary's sister, Sylvia, was home on a holiday and her husband Fillipo was also there. Our family had a fantastic time cooking and the children especially loved making fresh pasta and panna cotta. We also made aubergine rolls, scallopine with a local type of mushroom, and an orange salad. We tasted local cheeses and other local specialties and could barely move at the end as we were so full. All of the ingredients were fresh and high quality, right down to the olive oil from Mary's olive trees. Mary speaks fantastic English and her husband and sister were incredibly warm and welcoming. We had interesting conversations with them during the day and enjoyed spending time with an Italian family. Mary also kindly have us and the children lovely gifts to take home. A fantastic and memorable day! Along with rowing in Venice, the best thing we have done in the four weeks we have been in Italy. Thank you Mary!
