La volpe e l'uva' (The Fox and The Grapes) farm is a little corner of paradise - a quiet, peaceful oasis, an ideal place to relax and unwind surrounded by the Umbrian hills, valleys and medieval villages. The farm lies on a hill and offers absolute peace and quiet with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and Perugia.
The property consists of 10 hectares of olive groves, vineyards and orchards. If you wish to experience the joy of authentic Umbrian living and explore the region and its splendor, then this is the right place for you.
Five independent apartments have been restored around the ancient stone house, which dates back to the 17th century. Each apartment has a lounge with cooking area, a bedroom and bathroom. They have been comfortably furnished in farm-style teak furniture with great attention for detail. There is a lovely swimming pool from which you can enjoy the panoramic view.
The cooking classes are held in Raffaella's home in Perugia by a native home chef, where a convivial lunch from dishes prepared during the class will be served, and will be accompanied by wines produced in the farm. The cooking courses are aimed at being a full immersion into Umbrian gastronomic culture and include the preparation of real Italian dishes, traditional recipes, and the learning of the basic techniques of Mediterranean cuisine. Their approach to cooking can be wrapped up in three words: simple, seasonal, and local. The recipes come from the Mediterranean tradition, especially from central Italy (Umbria and Tuscany).
The programs are very flexible and you can ask Raffaella for changes, like the length of the vacation, the number of cooking lessons, and the number and type of excursions. You can plan your personal holiday together with Raffaella, as she will be answering to your emails.
It is also possible to bring along a non-participating partner who can spend the morning enjoying the surroundings, and could then join the group at lunchtime. Groups are kept small, and vary between two and eight participants, in order to assure a better enjoyment of each other's company and get as much attention as possible from your hosts. Cook in Umbria also accepts bigger groups, of up to 20 persons, for cooking demonstrations and tours. If interested, please send Cook in Umbria an inquiry.
My name is Raffaella and I start to live in this property bought by my husband’s family in 1996. At that time I was working as micropaleontology at the Perugia University . I liked the research, but unfortunately the opportunity to carry out this work in Italy were few so I left and changed life. Together with my husband Roberto (a geologist but now musician) I opened this farm and created a magnificent environment, where I give birth and raise my children. Around this small and magical environment I cultivated my passions mainly regarding food, traditions and relationships. I love cookin
