Day 1: Travel to Quillabamba and tour the farm in the afternoon

Talk with the farmers and get to know how they live in the Peruvian countryside. Share with a local family a little bit of your daily life as well. Also, learn about a very famous variety of cacao called chuncho, and discover why it is so famous. During your trip you will be exposed to breathtaking Andean and jungle landscapes in Cusco. If you wish to start this tour from Ollantaytambo after your Sacred Valley tour that won’t be a problem and it will actually reduce the length of the trip to Quillabamba. Join in this unique experience with Cocla Tours, and learn about the processes of cacao production in situ. These families still uphold traditional practices such as raising free-range animals such as guinea pigs and chickens. Tour itinerary
Day 1: Cusco - Quillabamba - local farm
- 07:45 At approximately this time, Cocla Tours will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the bus station
- 08:00 Depart in the direction of Quillabamba. This leg of the trip takes approximately four and a half hours. You will pass through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The highest point of your journey will be Málaga (approximately 4,316 meters above sea level.)
- 12:30 Arrival at Quillabamba and get settled in your hotel room. Lunch will be served
- 14:00 Travel towards the cacao farm
- 14:30 Start of the farm activities. A member of the family will take you around the farm, where they will explain about the type of work that they regularly perform. You will have the opportunity to try fruit that is in season, learn about different proposal plants. However, principally they will focus on the process of cacao production. After this visit to the farm, you will participate in the traditional roasting of cacao beans. At the end of this activity, you will all enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, which you will prepare using traditional methods.
- 18:00 Return to Quillabamba to spend the night (dinner not included)
Day 2: Quillabamba - Cusco or hydroelectric plant (train station)
- 07:30 Breakfast on your own
- After breakfast, at approximately 09:00 a.m. you will travel back to Cusco
Please note, if you wish to add the Machu Picchu extension to this tour, then Cocla Tours can bring you to the train station, or you can organize this tour through them. The departure time will be at approximately 10:00 a.m. Also, keep in mind that you will be taking public transportation, and there are no fixed schedules. The car leaves only when it is full, for this reason they ask you to be a bit flexible.
