I have just returned from an amazing walking holiday in Los Alpujarras, staying at the timeless and sublime Casa Ana, in the village of Ferreirola, nestled in the heart of the mountains of this historically important and beautiful area of southern Spain. Led by the entertaining and wonderfully eccentric writer Chris Stewart, fifteen walkers from around the world shared a memorable and companionable week. Clearly, Chris and his wife Ana were important to the success of the holiday, but the hospitality at Casa Ana was faultless, the food to die for, and the support of experienced Spanish Highs mountain guides impeccable. I loved it so much that I've just booked a return to see the spring flowers in 2018.

Anne, our host for the week, was more than delightful--her warmth and desire to show us a beautifully relaxing week made for a lot of laughs, wonderful (no, amazingly gourmet) food, and wonderful discussions...and a bit of dance. As it turned out, our group, that was there for a hike with Chris Stewart, the author of Driving over Lemons (and several other books), was quite musical. If you love to hike, enjoy learning about new areas (or revisiting), enjoy the beauty of mountains, this week-long Alpurjurras trek is for you. (We returned to Casa-Ana each evening.) Strangers became friends after spending a week together. Chris was a delight and showed the hikers a great time, including a delicious lunch that he and his lovely wife, Anna created for us at his house. A day in Grenada was beautiful too. This week will fill my memory bank with pleasant thoughts about hiking amongst the thyme and trees filled with olives, oranges, and almonds....and much more.

Casa Ana is the perfect base, set in a remote village. The staff were great, food outstanding made with lots of fresh local produce and the surrounding area very picturesque. We were able to come back after a day's walking to very relaxing, pleasant environment… Overall, a fantastic, enjoyable week and one we would thoroughly recommend. You will not be disappointed and we would stay again.
