Chocolate Vacations at Brenton Lodge

These getaways are for the ultimate chocolate lover, who wants to indulge their passion and learn hands-on to create hand crafted truffles and perfect pralines. The getaway includes a 2 night stay in one of our suites, breakfast each morning and of course lots of chocolate. These packages are perfect for an anniversary, birthday, special occasion or just a weekend break.

Four private luxury suites with ensuite, with panoramic views to the sea and islands and all overlooking an acre of beautiful gardens. Laze around the pool, enjoy a drink at the bar or gather in the lounge and relax by the fireside. Breakfast and dinner can be served alfresco on your balcony or privately in your cottage.

Garden suite

The Garden suite is adjacent to the lodge, with a private entrance. Tastefully furnished the Garden suite enjoys wide sea views and overlooks the pool and garden. There is a private balcony, the suite is open plan with super king or twin beds, tea/coffee making facilities fridge, LCD television, CD and DVD players. There is an ensuite shower room, two guests can be accommodated comfortably, and a rollaway bed can be added for a child.

Moana cottage

A tastefully furnished cottage, set privately in the garden, with sea views to Mayor Island and overlooking Whangamata. Moana Cottage has a private balcony, is open plan with lounge and bedroom, a queen size bed, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, LCD/TV, CD and DVD players. There is an ensuite shower room, the cottage sleeps 2 guests, a rollaway bed can be added for a child.

Pacific suite

The Pacific suite, enjoys wide views to Mayor Island and overlooks the pool, gardens and Whangamata township. Recently redecorated in shades of blue, it has an ensuite shower room, TV, CD and DVD player, fridge, tea/coffee facilities and private balcony. The suite comfortably accommodates 2 guests in a queen size bed, if twin accommodation or an extra guest needs a bed there in a second bedroom with queen size bed available on request.

Tui cottage

A tastefully furnished cottage, set privately in the garden, with sea views to Mayor Island and overlooking Whangamata. Tui Cottage has a private balcony, is open plan with lounge and bedroom, a queen size bed, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, LCD/TV, CD and DVD players. There is an ensuite shower room, the cottage sleeps two guests, a rollaway bed can be added for a child.

Day 1: Arrival

Friday

Arrive at Brenton Lodge, check in from 02.00 pm onwards.

A light supper will be served from 07.00 pm.

The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy.

Day 2: Chocolate course and free time

Saturday

Breakfast from 08.00 am with the first session of the chocolate course starting at 10.00 am. You will be given an informative introduction to the history of chocolate with different chocolates to taste and compare.

We move on learning to create our very own hand-crafted truffles, making a selection of beautiful chocolate ganache, this will allow you to participate hands on, mixing, piping, cutting, coating scrumptious truffles. You will each make approximately 50 truffles.

Lunch will be served between 12.00 and 01.00 pm and the days class will end around 04.00 pm.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy, allowing you to try the wonderful local cafes and restaurants, bars and beaches.

Day 3: Chocolate course and departure

Sunday

Breakfast from 08.00 am with the chocolate workshop commencing at 10.00 am.

You will be shown how to make perfect moulded chocolates. They will be made with a variety of gorgeous fillings including alcohol and using some color techniques, allowing the art of experimentation to begin - unlock your inner artist. Once set your chocolates and truffles are ready for packaging.

Whangamata is situated on the East coast of the Coromandel Peninsula has an amazing ocean beach with a unique combination of safe swimming and surfing breaks. Enjoy relaxing coastal walks with spectacular sea views or venture into the Tairua Forest or Coromandel Forest Park, which border the town, for walks and mountain biking.

Area attractions

Luck at Last Mine - a well sign posted track in the forest provides a scenic one hour walk to old gold mine ruins. An alternative track to Pritchard's Kauri in virgin bush is 4km further on the Forestry Rd.

Mountain Biking The Whangamata Information Centre provides information and permits for bush walks, mountain bike trails and other activities in the Pine Forest located 3km north of town on State Highway 25.

Onemana - a popular surfcasting beach that offers exceptional views from the southern hilltop.

Opoutere - popular for swimming and surfing, this spectacular white sand, 5km beach is protected from development by an afforested reserve. Wharekawa Harbour is known for bush walking and bird watching.

Tuhua (Mayor) Island - famous waters for big game fishing 30km off the coast, that can be reached by one of the local charter boats.

Wentworth Valley - offering a 30 min Old Mines walk, a two hour walk to the waterfalls and a five hour walk, Maratoto- Wentworth.

Whangamata Craft Trail - gifted local artisans can be visited using a brochure available from the Information Centre.

Whiritoa - exposed and often rough, this beach does have a tidal lagoon that offers safe swimming.
