Accommodation

In Bonito: Bonito Ecotel or similar

Only two blocks away from Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul downtown, Bonito Ecotel is the perfect place to host you in nature. A large lot, surrounded by trees, flowers, plants, and a creek is the place where Bonito Ecotel was built. Located in an area where nature is key, innovative technologies have been brought together to create a hotel that is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and also manages to be comfortable, welcoming, and warm.

Local touches are part of the basic architecture and there is a total of 20 rooms, each holding up to four people. The hotel has a swimming pool with a built-in jacuzzi, hammocks, lounge area, massage area, garden, free Wi-Fi internet, tourism agency, and a lot more to offer.

In Pantanal: Pousada Aguapé or similar

The farm has been run by the same family for some 150 years. Since 1989, it has diversified its activities, continuing with cattle but starting to work with ecological tourism, it is also taking part in other projects such as Hyacinth Macaw project and Organic Veal.

It is located in a rich area formed by typical wetland vegetation and open pastures with patches of stunted vegetation (cerrado), lakes, lowlands, pond outlets, and the Aquidauana River with its exuberant gallery forest. Visitors are welcome throughout the year, during the rain or dry season. This is an excellent environment for birdwatchers (over 300 species have been listed).

And more, at Aguapé the guest can wake up with the song of birds and also can milk the cows early in the morning with the sunrise. There is nothing more beautiful and impressive than to see the sunrise and the sunset in Pantanal.

There are 15 apartments with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, minibar, and private bathroom with hot water - electrical shower (some rooms are already equipped with solar water heater). The rooms are for one to four people. Facilities include swimming pool, meeting room, sand volleyball court, hammocks area, thatched-roof kiosks to relax, quiosques, free Wi-Fi in the common areas, cell phone - just Vivo (mobile phone service provider) at the reception, airstrip for small planes, souvenir store, living room with TV, games room, and restaurant.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Campo Grande to Bonito

  • Arrival in Campo Grande and meeting the host in the airport lobby.
  • Departure to Bonito on a four-hour journey on a paved road.
  • Check-in at the lodge and dinner out at the restaurant that has prepared a menu-tasting with regional dishes including the award-winning dish of the house: Mojica de Pintado.
  • Overnight.

Day 2 - Bonito

  • Departure after breakfast to the Rio da Prata - Bonito's most award-winning snorkeling tour.
  • Prepare some dishes of the lunch menu: Sopa Paraguaia, Linguiça de Maracaju, and Doce de Leite.
  • After lunch, snorkeling activity along the river with an approximate duration of four hours to observe the aquatic fauna.
  • Walking tour at Macaw’s Sink Hole and return to the pousada at the end of the day.
  • Overnight.

Day 3 - Bonito to Pantanal

  • Departure after breakfast to the Pantanal.
  • Arrival for lunch at Fazenda Pantaneira.
  • In the middle of the afternoon, departure for a jeep safari including birds observation and other wild species of the Pantanal (three hours).
  • On returning to the lodge, prepare piranha soup and ceviche with fresh ingredients.

Day 4 - Pantanal

  • The early morning activity is to milk the cows.
  • After breakfast, hands-on cooking activity including fresh cheese and some regional dishes for the lunch orientated by the host and local chef.
  • After tasting the lunch, horseback riding in the Pantanal fields looking for wildlife.
  • Dinner and night safari for wildlife viewing after dinner.
  • Overnight.

Day 5 - Pantanal

  • Departure after to Campo Grande in order to pick up the transportation back home.

Pantanal

By the same time, Bonito is located very close to the Pantanal, one of the most pristine environments on earth. Covering an area of about 210,000 square meters, the Pantanal is the world’s largest wetlands and concentrates an extraordinary diversity of fauna and flora in astonishing colorful landscapes. Pantaneiros are the local people who were born and live in the Pantanal wetlands and hold traditional culture and lifestyle formed and influenced by different cultures and the peculiar characteristics of such an isolated natural ecosystem.
