Although Friuli Venezia Giulia's diversity is still unknown and unexplored by tourists, wine lovers know the wonderful wines produced by Friuli, that can be defined as a dream come true for white wine lovers. If you think of more than thirty different wine varieties, among which there are 10 DOC and 4 DOCG areas, it is easy to understand that you find yourself in a special place. So, join this amazing wine tour put together by Bluone and you're sure to have the experience of a lifetime.
You will be accommodated at an elegant four-star hotel, in the center of Udine. The accommodation will be in single or double rooms, depending on your choice.
Have you ever tasted Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Vitovska, Verduzzo Friulano, Malvasia, Picolit, or Ribolla Gialla? These are just some of the most important indigenous wines of the area, creating a fragrant, elegant, and captivating atmosphere. Also, red wines are very good and important in this region: Schioppettino, Refosco, Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvigno, Merlot, Tazzelenghe, Terrano are just some of them. Most of these are indigenous wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Get settled, enjoy a welcome dinner at a winery, and receive an introduction to Friuli Venezia Giulia. You will be met at the Udine train station and transferred to your elegant hotel, in a beautiful building in the center of Udine. Upon arriving at the hotel, settle into your room. In the late afternoon, you will take a walk through the city center for a short sightseeing tour. Then, you will have an aperitif at a traditional bar and an introduction to the best white wines of Italy.
In the evening, you'll enjoy a welcome dinner together at a great osteria, in the center. The menu will be based on traditional foods and some of the local wines.
In the morning, drive to Cividale, a pretty little town located very close to the Slovenian border. It was founded by Giulio Cesare in the Roman period and it had a very intricate and interesting history. Since 2011, it is a UNESCO site.
Take a walk through the center with a guide, then depart to visit an amazing historical winery with an incredible panoramic view of the valley. You will then have a wine tasting.
Drive to Cormons, another little village nearby and the capital of the Collio area, with beautiful hills perfect for growing vineyards. You will have lunch at the local enoteca, then drive to visit a beautiful family winery and taste their wonderful wines.
You will then drive to Gorizia for a guided visit of the pretty town that was divided into two parts (Slovenia and Italy) by a wall. The wall was destroyed in 2004, when Slovenia became part of Europe.
After, drive back to Udine where you will have dinner at a delightful trattoria.
This day is dedicated to Trieste, the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and its area. Depart in the morning towards Trieste. On the way, you will stop at a winery in the Carso (that means rocky), a narrow strip of land between the hills and the sea. The soil is very rocky and full of minerals that, together with the special micro-climate, give a strong personality to the wines.
The winery produces great wines and there is an amazing view of the Adriatic Sea from the hills. After a wine tasting, you will drive to Castello di Miramare, a wonderful white castle built in 1860, that stands on the peak of the rocky promontory in the Gulf of Trieste. You can take great photos form there.
After, drive to Trieste, the Italian capital of coffee. Trieste, due to the fact that it was the port for the arrival of colonial goods (among others, coffee), is famous for its antique and fascinating cafes and bars and your lunch will be in one of them. After lunch, have a guided walk through this unique city with Mitteleuropean traditions. You will have some free time, then drive back to your hotel in Udine and have dinner there.
Depart for San Daniele del Friuli, a little town famous for the prosciutto di San Daniele. Visit the factory to see all the steps that make the prosciutto so delicate, then have lunch based on prosciutto and other local delicacies. Drive to a little town nearby to visit a school where they teach how to hand write books in the antique style, as the amanuensis monks used to do.
After the visit, you will drive to another little town nearby, the world largest wine-nursery complex, where they collect and grow all the baby wine plants (international and indigenous plants) and sell them all over the world. You will have a wine tasting at a nearby winery. Then, you will proceed to an amazing agriturismo for your cooking class, followed by dinner consisting of your creations. As they are also wine producers, you will taste some of their wines, too. After this, you will go back to your hotel in Udine.
The morning will be dedicated to shopping in Udine. There are plenty of elegant shops at your disposal. You will have lunch on your own and, in the afternoon, you will drive to Spilimbergo, a little gem named the “Gioiello d’Italia” in 2012. Besides the little town's beauty, Spilimbergo is world famous for its prestigious mosaic school which you will visit and have a short walk through.
Proceed towards Venzone. On the way, you will stop at a beautiful winery for a wine tasting. The wines produced in this area are Friuli Grave, Piculit, and Prosecco, among others. Venzone is a little town, another jewel, named “Borgo dei Borghi” in Italy (the most beautiful borgo in Italy for 2017). Have a short walk through the borgo, surrounded by the Alps. You will have dinner at a typical trattoria in the center of the town and then head back to Udine.
In the late morning, you leave for Palmanova, an ideal city of the Renaissance, in the shape of a nine-pointed star, built to be a fortress for the Venetians against the Ottoman Empire. There is an incredibly huge square in the center of the little village. You will have a short walk around, then stop at a beautiful bar, winner of the prize “Best Bar of Italy 2014”.
There, you will have a great colazione italiana, a sort of lunch that includes sweet and salted dishes, all beautifully presented, freshly made, and very tasty. After lunch, you will drive to Aquileia, another UNESCO site, to visit the basilica and its magnificent fourth century mosaics.
You will then proceed to visit another local winery and have a wine tasting. Then, you will drive to Grado, a little town on the Adriatic Sea, surrounded by an extended lagoon that offers a special landscape full of beautiful colors. After a walk along the port-channel that leads to the center of the little town, you will have a fantastic farewell fish dinner with local fresh fish. After this, you will head back to your hotel in Udine.
You will depart after breakfast.

Despite several enchanting, lifting landscapes of its territory, including sandy coastal beaches and lagoons in the south, lakes and dolomites in the north, rocky hills in the east, the diversity of this beautiful landscape is still unknown and unexplored by tourists.
