During your visit, you will be staying in a lovely 4-star central hotel in the charming city of Bologna.


Day 1, Sunday - Get settled in

Your guides will meet you at the Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) or train station and provide a private transfer to your hotel, ideally situated in the heart of Bologna.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Bologna city center for an introduction of Bologna and the Emilia Romagna region.

In the evening, your guide will drive you to the charming medieval hilltop town of Dozza. There, you will enjoy a dinner of regional dishes at a picturesque restaurant frequented by local families.

Day 2, Monday - Herb garden tour and chef-taught cooking class

You will visit a privately-owned aromatic herb garden with several different herb varieties at a farmhouse in the charming hills. The owner will teach you how her herbs are used in cooking and she will prepare a delicious garden lunch for you with her home-grown products.

Together you will make "piadina" a poor bread traditional of this area that has become famous in all of Italy. You'll also have a chance to sample her exquisite jams, herbs, and aperitifs as well.

After lunch, you'll enjoy superb gelato and then drive to a nearby winery to taste some of the regional wines like Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Albana, and others.

In the afternoon, you'll attend a cooking class demonstration at a restaurant taught by chef and owner Nicola. He will prepare a special dinner for you featuring local herbs and teach you many secrets you can take home to your own kitchen! You'll enjoy aperitif in the beautiful restaurant garden prior to dinner that will consist of what Nicola has prepared in front of you in the kitchen.

Day 3, Tuesday - Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, prosciutto di Parma, traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena, and gourmet lunch

On Tuesday morning, you will visit a family-owned Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese factory, where you will get to see all stages of production and finish the tour with a delicious cheese tasting. You will then proceed to the Parma area where you will get to see all the steps of preparation and aging at a prosciutto producer.

For lunch, you will drive back to the Modena area to enjoy a gourmet lunch at Luigi restaurant. You will enjoy dishes featuring Parmigiano, prosciutto, and balsamic vinegar. Along with his delectable dishes, you will sip Lambrusco, the red sparkling wine of the Modena region, that is a perfect accompaniment to Parmigiano.

The last visit of the day will be to a producer of traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena, where you will see firsthand how the vinegar is made and aged. You will taste it at various stages of the process and learn how and when to use it in cooking.

You will then return to Bologna in the late afternoon and enjoy dinner on your own.

Day 4, Wednesday - Explore Ravenna and a Bolognese sauce cooking class

Wednesday will begin with a visit to Ravenna, known as The City of Mosaics, with eight different UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will take a guided tour of several monuments and their spectacular mosaics, followed by lunch in the city center at a traditional Italian osteria.

From there you will visit the hills of Romagna for a three-hour hands-on cooking class at an agriturismo. A traditional Italian mama will teach you how to make Bolognese sauce and other regional specialties with the freshest ingredients. You will enjoy dinner at her 150-year-old farmhouse with the ambiance of vineyards and olive trees nearby.

Day 5, Thursday - Gelato class at Bologna Gelato University and family-taught cooking class and dinner

In the morning you'll have a private gelato class at Bologna Gelato University. Following your teacher's instructions you will make your gelato with seasonal fruits and enjoy it at the end!

In the afternoon learn the art of pasta making with an Italian family cook at a private home. You will make egg pasta from scratch along with other traditional dishes of the region. You'll enjoy a farewell dinner of your own homemade dishes and receive a recipe book to take home.

Day 6, Friday - Departure day

Departure to Bologna airport or train station after breakfast at the hotel.

This holiday takes place in Bologna, a beautiful city offering the very best in architecture and historic churches, also known as the lively, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafés, and medieval and Renaissance structures, such as the City Hall, the Neptune Fountain and the Basilica of San Petronio. Among several medieval towers, is the leaning Asinelli Tower, which is open for climbs.


During this holiday, you will have the chance to discover the authentic northern Italian cuisine. Along the way, you will taste many specific specialties, such as extra virgin olive oil, regional wines and the famous Parmesan cheese. Besides these, you will be dining in the local restaurants where you will discover a wide assortment of regional dishes, some of which, you will also learn to cook during your cooking lessons.
