Blackaddie Country House Hotel

There may be many hotels in Dumfries and Galloway, but Blackaddie Country House Hotel prides itself on being relaxed while offering professional service - and it's pet-friendly too. Dogs are allowed in most bedrooms although not all as they feel it is important to keep a few free for those that may have allergies. Dogs are also allowed in all public rooms with the exception of the restaurant and breakfast rooms where food is served (unless you have a guide dog).

Four of the hotel rooms have super king size beds, one of which is a four-poster, some of which can be twinned if preferred, and great en-suite bathrooms with a selection of Arran Aromatic toiletries, large bath sheets, robes, and slippers. All the others have showers only. They also have cots and Z-beds available for babies and youngsters. There is no charge for children under the age of 5.

There is as you would expect a well-stocked bar with a good array of single malts for you to try. They have a large selection of books in their library, and if you have started one but not finished it during your stay, they are happy for you to take it away if you either leave a book in its place or send it back once you’ve finished with it.

The hotel has a large car park immediately outside and a separate car park for the cottages. Of the many hotels in Dumfries and Galloway, Blackaddie Country House Hotel thinks you’ll be pleased that you chose this four-star hotel. In 2014, Luxury Galloway appointed Blackaddie Hotel as one of Scotland’s best romantic award-winning hotels in Dumfries and Galloway, offering delicious locally sourced food in luxurious surroundings.

Wildlife and surrounding landscape

From a stunning coastline complete with bird sanctuaries, fantastic sandy beaches, and hidden coves, heather clad hills and deep steep glens, waterfalls, and sparkling mountain burns, large forest parks, and dark skies. Wildlife of all kinds can be found on both the land and in the sea and rivers, yet not so many people know of or have visited the area.

Days out and activities

The town boasts the highest village in Scotland complete with a ski club. Dramatic castles and country estates, beautiful gardens, and empty roads, there is so much to do in the region and the hotel can help point you in the right direction for its many sights and hidden treasures. The area has some of the best mountain biking in the country in the 7 Stanes, the longest coast to coast footpath goes from the coast way over in the west at Port Patrick, right through the region and past the hotel front door.

Arts and crafts

The region is famous for its arts and crafts boasting many world-class artists, potters, and sculptors living in Dumfries and Galloway and for the art to be found in the landscape such as Henry Moore’s statues and Andy Goldsworthy’s striding arches. On the hotel's doorstep is the Crawick Multiverse a Charles Jenks Landform Art Project and in the town, an exhibition of the Unique Sanquhar Pattern knitting can be found at ‘A’ The Airts. In the hotel, they exhibit and sell original paintings by a local artist as well as those of Ian’s niece and other Edinburgh art students work.

Robert Burns
