We stayed at the Bay of Many Coves during our tour of New Zealand. The hotel is only accessible by water taxi from Picton and is in a beautiful remote location. Reception, lounge and restaurant are just next to the jetty and the rooms are built up the hillside. Our room was spacious with a sitting room which included a kitchenette area, bedroom and a roomy bathroom. BOMC is a member of the Luxury Lodges of New Zealand and we felt that the furniture is not quite as luxurious as other other member hotels that we stayed at but was comfortable. The bathroom would have benefited from underfloor heating. However the view from the balcony and bedroom were simply stunning and the remote location contributed to the "get away from it all" feeling. There are walks from the hotel and walking poles are available to borrow. The weather was not great while we were there and the paths had become quite difficult and slippy. It is possible to walk to the top of the hill and around the bay. If you need something more gentle there is a waterfall that is just a 20 minute walk away. The hosts Murray and Elaine are very friendly and Murray is very knowledgeable about the local wines and shared his enthusiasm on two wine tastings during our stay. The food in the restaurant is excellent. The spa is very good and we both enjoyed a treatment. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. There are lots of activities if you are feeling energetic. Many reviewers talk of good or excellent service but something happened during our stay that put the level of service offered by Murray and Elaine beyond excellent. We had a 7.8 earthquake. The whole building was shaken violently but as a testament to the builders and the materials they used, it survived with no damage at all. We were due to travel to Kaikoura the following day and the rail and road connections were destroyed. Murray and Elaine took it all in their stride offering us advise and practical helped us to book alternative transport and accommodation. Communication with our travel agent was difficult and they helped us rescue our holiday. BOMC is ideal if you are looking for some R&R halfway through your tour with fabulous scenery and first class service.

This is truly a 5* hotel and should not be missed if you ever have the opportunity to stay there. The hotel is spotless, the food a delight, the scenery fantastic and the staff absolutely superb. During our stay we had a problem with the next leg of our holiday and the staff bent over backwards to help solve the problem. They cannot be praised highly enough. A most memorable experience that will stay with us fora long time.

This place is something special. Only a 30-minute boat trip from Picton but you feel a million miles away from anywhere. Staff, food, rooms are all excellent. Amazing pool and hot tub to soak in under the stars. Paddleboarding, walks, or just relaxing - could have stayed there a week. Thanks James, Meg and everyone for a great stay. Tip - All rooms have a view of the water - some are further up the hill than others. If you're concerned about walking up the hill, don't worry, they have golf carts!

This has to be one of the best luxury treasures in New Zealand. The rooms and location are gorgeous. Add in friendly, attentive staff and its impossible not to be impressed and then there is the food. We have dined around the world but the meals here reached another level. The degustation a must! The dining is intimate as the hotel is not too large and the food was divine. This is a must stay if you are a foodie and a must stay if you just want to relax. This is a place you come to drink in the environment and peace and relax. A place you come to savor the best cuisine around. Beware technophiles that there is poor cell phone coverage and the internet was done when we were there but this was a bonus! In todays world to be adrift from being constantly available in a secluded haven was luxury at its best. I will be back!

It started with a water plane flight over the picturesque Marlborough Sound which is highly recommended. The reception at the hotel, the room and the food was outstanding. The management did also an excellent job to separate the normal guests from a rather noisy Chinese group. The half day cruise onboard classic lunch is great.

My wife and I recently travelled to New Zealand and while there stayed at the Bay of Many Coves to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Amazing location in a quiet secluded bay with breath taking views. We had a wonderful lunch at the water's edge and a superb dinner. Food and wine were exquisite. Finally we shouldn't forget the hospitality. We were made to feel so welcome by our hosts and they really did do everything to make sure our stay was memorable. If you get chance - take a trip here. You will not be disappointed. (UK).

We stayed 3 nights at the BOMC in the Marlborough Sounds. What a wonderful experience. The service begins with the managers/staff greeting you at the dock as your Cougar Line Taxi from Picton arrives. The rooms are built into the side of a mountain and have fabulous views of the Sounds from the floor to ceiling windows in the bedroom and living room of your suite or from your patio. There are three restaurants (2 that serve breakfast and lunch - same menu for each of these) then another restaurant with a very good dinner menu. Be warned of the uphill walks to get to your rooms - gets your heart rate up. We stayed in room 101 low enough on the hill to not be too painful a walk but high enough for gorgeous views. We hiked in the morning before breakfast - very challenging up hills. Also took kayaks out on a gorgeous day in the Sounds. Pip and Nick were wonderful hosts and invited all guests to a wine tasting one evening. We would definitely return if there is a next trip to NZ for us.
