One of the first cooking schools of its kind, founded by famous author and cookbook writer Lorenza de Medici over twenty years ago, the Badia a Coltibuono cooking school provides an idyllic setting where guests can learn the secrets of authentic regional Italian cuisine. The cooking courses offer a splendid chance to immerse oneself in the unique lifestyle and hospitality of a thousand-year-old abbey while savoring the fantastic tastes and sights that this beautiful region offers.
Once a place of prayer and renewal, Badia a Coltibuono has embraced modern ideas of hospitality whilst preserving the historical beauty and atmosphere of this ancient monastery. Badia a Coltibuono offers flexible, one off solutions for a holiday - whether it be a day, a weekend or a week or two, providing charming accommodation in different types of rooms with en suite bathroom and breakfast included or large apartments which have been carefully restored and furnished. An outdoor swimming pool and a beautiful Italian style garden are at our guests’ disposal for a relaxing stay.
This is an intensive 2-day course where guests are introduced to some of the most authentic traditional Tuscan dishes by chef Benedetta Vitali. The course develops over 2 days of morning and afternoon cooking classes. From the typical “schiacciata”, a kind of flat bread flavored with extra virgin olive oil and salt to the dessert, passing through the “pasta” world, without forgetting meat and vegetables, you will make a journey through the excellences of the Tuscan products. You will follow the chef’s teaching actively contributing to the preparation of the different dishes.
The informal and intimate atmosphere of the abbey’s private dining room, where lunches and dinners are served after the cooking classes, is the perfect frame for a unique experience where fun and professionalism are wisely mixed. The final touch is the selection of the Badia a Coltibuono wines well paired with the prepared menu which brings out flavors and aromas of the food.
Each cooking class will have a different menu. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are on request as well as special dishes for guests with food allergies or intolerances.
You will enjoy a guided tour of the abbey.
This cooking holiday takes place in Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy.
Your chef, Benedetta, has always prepared food that is healthy and delicious, working with local and environmentally friendly ingredients. Vegetarian recipes will have a central part in her menus. The vegetable and herb garden, the great resource of Tuscan cuisine, will have a major role; healthy food that is also delicious.
