This culinary tour will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The picturesque mountain city of Chiang Mai, also the seat of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, has a culture and flair all its own - including a delectable cuisine unique to Northern Thailand.
Whether it is the gilded twists of temple spires, the breezy sunshine over white sands, or just the enveloping warmth of Thai laughter, the whole country of Thailand has a glow about it. Explore powdery beaches and soaring cliffs, and swim the pools and waterfalls of the misty forests. But Thailand is more than its classic-postcard surface. In its cities, even a walk down the street will take you past the daily hustle and the otherworldly - zipping motos, noodle stalls, floating markets, and massive Buddhas. What you will encounter most, however, is the spark of Thailand’s radiant people
Fiercely devoted to tradition and tranquility, Chiang Mai is a world apart. Here, Buddhist monks welcome curious visitors into their sanctuaries for meditation, and thousands of floating red lanterns fill the sky during Loi Krathong festivities.
The problem with Chiang Mai is deciding what to do! This region of northern Thailand has everything you would want from a holiday. Get plenty of exercise and fresh air with outdoor activities like mountain biking, trekking, and kayaking. Go on a guided walking tour around the walled and moated old city to explore Chiang Mai’s past, and admire up close the massive Buddhas and priceless sacred art. You can even take a helicopter tour of the landscape if you’re feeling indulgent. For a more genuine encounter, head to forest and hill tribe communities for homestays and volunteer activities.
On this cultural and culinary journey, you will discover the best street foods that the moated Old City has to offer, enjoy a home-cooked meal with a Thai family, and savor delicious authentic Thai meals.
There will be ample time for you to go exploring on your own.
Please book your flight to arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Backyard Travel will pick you up from the airport.

"Backyard Travel helped organize a private day tour of Phnom Kulen National Park after I had read about the tour and the company in an article from the Guardian. The tour is not listed on the website, but they can organise and tailor-make it for you. The booking process was easy, including payment through a secure website. The organisation of the tour was very flexible. They rearranged timing of pick-up at the last minute to suit our desire to visit Banteay Srei temple on the way to Phnom Kulen, and the guide came along even though it was not meant to be part of the package. We also ended up making another quick stop at another temple on the way back as there was some time left. Five hours of the tour were spent on a motorcycle driven by a guide whizzing through the jungle from one part of the old abandoned ancient city to another. The stone elephant was my favorite, which included the visit of a bat cave and a pagoda. It is worth noting the ride is quite gnarly, so avoid it if you have back issues. It was a great day tour, everything felt like it was done at our own pace and we felt pretty much alone with our guide in that national park the whole day. I would definitely use Backyard Travel again, as they were very professional and delivered a great experience on this tour."
