The Ashburton Cookery School is one of the UK's top cookery schools offering inspirational cookery courses led by professional chefs. There are 14 rooms available at Ashburton Court that are only available to cookery school students and their guests. You will enjoy a comfortable stay within walking distance of the town center with easy access to the local shops, bars, and pubs. The buildings are listed as Grade II. It is only a five-minute walk from town amenities, pubs, and cafes.
All rooms are en-suite. There are also tea and coffee-making facilities. The guests may enjoy free Wi-Fi. The rooms will be cleaned daily. Towels are provided. Continental breakfast with eggs cooked to order is available. There is also a guest lounge. Complimentary minibus transport to the new cookery school is provided.
All Ashburton Cookery School courses offer an Ashburton Cookery School or Ashburton Chefs Academy certificate upon successful completion of a course. Successful completion of a course is determined by the chef tutors based on a minimum rate of attendance, learning progress, and attitude.
Certificates are issued at the discretion of the chef tutors. Please note, to maintain the value of Ashburton Cookery School course certificates, students that have a partial attendance record will find that reflected on their course certificate.
This cookery course is ideal for those with little cooking experience who want learn the core skills that will help them to start cooking with confidence. It will give you a broad range of skills to become a competent cook, starting with the basics, and moving on to more complex areas.
You will be with like-minded people with the same level of skill, and the course is a lot of fun as you work your way through a wide range of recipes each day enjoying a lunch and early evening dinner. You will be amazed at how much you accomplish during this course.
The recipes you will learn are designed to give you as broad a range of fundamental cookery skills as possible, giving you the confidence and skill to take on any recipe.
Since Ashburton Cookery School use the best quality seasonal and local produce as possible, recipes will sometimes change to match the produce available.
Upon arrival, you will meet your fellow students and chef tutor who will talk you through the week ahead over tea and coffee. For your morning session, you will learn knife skills, rice cooking, chicken curry, vegetable curry, and simple Indian bread. For lunch, you will have Thai green chicken curry, chickpea and potato curry, ginger rice, and Indian flatbread.
In the afternoon session, you will learn potato preparation for chips, roasting ham joint, simple bakery, fried eggs, and meat cookery. You will have cider glazed gammon, hand cut chips, fried eggs and watercress salad, yogurt and blueberry flapjack, and blueberry compote for dinner.
Today, upon arrival, you will be served with tea and coffee. Then, you will have a short recap of the previous day and theory session. For the morning session, you will learn about white sauce, mashed potato, classic fish pie, boiled eggs, cooking green vegetables, and fishcake preparation. You will have classic fish pie topped with mash potato, green bean salad for lunch.
In the afternoon session, you will learn shortcrust pastry, poultry cookery, pasta cookery, risotto preparation, and cranachan dessert. For dinner, you will have chicken and butternut squash risotto and cranachan dessert. You will take home macaroni cheese at the end of the day.
Upon arrival, you will be served with tea and coffee. Then, you will have a short recap of the previous day and theory session. You will learn poached eggs, wilted spinach, fishcake cookery, lamb meatballs, and cucumber dip during your morning session. You will have breaded fishcakes, lemon buttered spinach and poached egg for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will learn moussakka, mozzarella salad, chocolate and pecan tart, and Chantilly cream and have them for dinner. You will take home with you lamb meatballs and cucumber dip.
As usual upon arrival, you will be served with tea and coffee. Then, you will have a short recap of the previous day and theory session. You will learn minestrone soup, croutons, basil pesto, and braised beef during your morning session. For lunch, you will have minestrone soup served with basil pesto, croutons.
In the afternoon, you will learn sirloin steak cookery, homemade crisps, tomato relish, and baked seasonal fruit dessert which you will have as your dinner.
Today, upon arrival, you will be served with tea and coffee. Then, you will have a short recap of the week. You will learn fish cookery, dressings, dumplings, finish braised beef, chocolate chip muffins, and root vegetable preparation.
For lunch, you will have pan-fried bream fillet, fennel coleslaw, and lemon dressing, braised beef skin, suet dumplings, roasted root vegetables, white chocolate, and morello cherry muffin. After the lunch, you will have a course round-up and certificate presentation in the afternoon.

The price of the package includes daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your breakfast will be served at Ashburton Court. The delicious organic buffet breakfast comprises fruit juices, tea, coffee, home-made jams and preserves, marmalades, home-baked bread, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, fruit bowl, dried fruits, seeds, nuts, Westcountry cheeses and hams, toast fresh-baked croissants, and organic free-range eggs cooked to order.
Ashburton Cookery School kitchens are in use seven days a week for a variety of different courses, and although they are deep cleaned nightly, they cannot offer a nut, shellfish, or other allergies free environment.
However, most people with severe food allergies are able to self-medicate and carry their own medication such as an EpiPen in case of emergencies. In most cases, they can accommodate students with such allergies, but it is important that you call Ashburton Cookery School to discuss your requirements before booking a course. Whilst they will always try to accommodate wherever possible, they won't be able to restructure the course.
Ashburton Cookery School is very familiar with intolerances and allergies and regularly welcome coeliacs, vegetarians, and those with gluten-free and dairy-free diets on our courses where possible.
If you are lactose intolerant, it may be relatively easy to accommodate a change to the course content, whereas a vegetarian (willing to work with meat) may not find the courses suitable unless they were prepared to adjust their lunch and dinner menus since the course content would not change.
In Ashburton Cookery School courses, you eat the food that you prepare yourself so you can adjust your recipes to suit. If you wish to use alternative or specialist ingredients in place of Ashburton Cookery School, you are welcome to bring them if you can let them know in advance.
