This gastronomic package in Cyprus at Aperanti Agrotourism will lead you to an unforgettable journey into taste, while staying in a peaceful traditional ecotourism in a rural village. You will get a full immersion in the Cypriot culinary experience, dipping your hands in fresh goat milk and making halloumi cheese, learning the traditional hand-method that has been passed in the family from generations. You will take part in hands-on cooking lessons to learn Cypriot traditional recipes and bread making, using your own products and organic vegetables. This holiday will give you the opportunity to meet local people, chat with them, and learn from their experience, and at the same time to relax and regenerate yourself in the idyllic Cypriot countryside.
During this holiday, you will stay in Aperanti Agrotourism. Aperanti is a traditional agrotourism bed and breakfast in Cyprus. The house was built in 1915 and has been recently renovated to carefully preserve its traditional style, while also to include modern facilities. Wooden-beamed ceilings, natural stone floors and decorative plasters in combination with wooden or iron-wrought furniture, they all create the idyllic atmosphere of the house. The four rooms for the guests open onto a quiet central courtyard where people can sit down and relax. Breakfast and dinner can be served at the agrotourism accommodation either in the courtyard or in the spacious dining room, according to your preference.
Aperanti Agrotourism consists of four private rooms fitted with wooden beamed ceilings and natural stone/wooden floor and include wrought-iron or wooden bed frames, wooden furniture and tiled bathrooms. Some rooms also have a small private balcony. They named the rooms after birds that you can see in the area. Kranga and Sgartili rooms are perfect for couples, while Thoupi and Alkioni are more spacious and ideal for a family or a group of friends. Facilities provided in all rooms include bed sheets and towels, bathroom toiletries, central heating, and ceiling fans.
Kranga is a double room located on the upper floor. It has a wooden double bed and wooden furniture. This room also has a private small balcony overlooking the central courtyard. The private bathroom (bath/wc) is just outside the room, linked via the private balcony.
Sgartili is a double room located in the ground floor. It has a wooden double bed and wooden furniture. The private bathroom (shower/wc) is located inside the room.
Thoupi is a spacious room located in the upper floor. It is perfect for a family or for a small group of friends. It has a wrought-iron double bed, a wooden single sofa bed and wooden furniture. This room has a private small terrace overlooking the road. The private bathroom (bath/wc) is located inside the room.
Alkioni is a very spacious room located on the ground floor. It is perfect for a family or for a small group of friends. It has a wrought-iron double bed, a wooden double sofa bed and wooden/iron furniture. The private bathroom (shower/wc) is located inside the room.
In addition to the cooking classes, bread making and halloumi cheese workshop, you will be collecting fruits directly from the trees and tasting Cypriot wine at the local winery, while admiring the mountains in the distance. You will explore the nearby mountains, visiting old monasteries while stopping in local villages for a Cypriot coffee.
You will visit the local farm, experience the goat milking and learn about the importance of organic farming. You will indulge yourself with a memorable Cypriot meal at Aperanti with its fresh seasonal ingredients and the touch of Italian flavor, enjoy a traditional meze in the village tavern and have a gourmet experience in one of the most creative restaurants in Cyprus.
Arrive at your accommodation at Aperanti Agrotourism either by your own transport or ask Aperanti Agrotourism to arrange for a pick up from the airport. Enjoy the quietness of the inner patio with a welcoming drink (home-made lemonade or coffee or herbal tea) and home-made biscuits/cake. Have a pleasant stroll around the charming village Pera Oreinis, exploring the cobblestones little alleys or visit the fields to collect seasonal fruits.
In the evening, enjoy the full-course menu (starters, main and side dish, dessert) in which the Cypriot and Italian flavors blend together creating a unique home-cooked cuisine, that uses Mediterranean herbs and fresh vegetables from ther field (when available). Conclude the dinner with a coffee or with an herbal tea or with one of their home-made liqueurs (produced using our own fruits or wild herbs and berries).
After an early breakfast with the farm's local products, Maroulla will introduce you to the world of Cypriot cheeses by making Halloumi and Anari cheese following the traditional hand method (approximately four hours).
At lunch time, enjoy the fresh cheeses that have been prepared, together with a fresh village salad, and their own olive products (olive pate, olives and olive oil). In the afternoon, you will visit the white-stone monastery of Agios Irakleidios. Herbal teas, jams and other delicacies produced by the nuns of the monastery can be purchased on site. You will then visit the organic Riverland Biofarm and experiencing the goat milking. The products of the farm (yogurt, airani, and kefir) can be purchased on site.
There will be a guided walk of the farm surroundings with amazing view over the red canyon and the Tamassos Dam. Optional activities at the farm (on request) includes kayaking, archery, horse riding. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Meze (selection of Cypriot dishes) in a local restaurant.
After breakfast, you head towards the Machairas mountains on a scenic route with amazing view over the Nicosia plain. We can have (on request) a short trekking on one of the several paths inside the Machairas forest, learning about local flora. We will stop to visit the ancient Machairas Monastery and head back passing from traditional mountain villages (Fikardou, Lazania) and finally concluding the tour with wine tasting in the local winery of AES Ambelis.
Hands-on cooking lessons will take place in the late afternoon. Learn how to prepare a traditional dish of Cyprus (such as home-made ravioli or stuffed vine leaves "koupepia"). Finally dinner will be served. You will enjoy the dish that you have prepared in the afternoon, together with a salad, a dip and a glass of local wine.
In the morning after breakfast, we will introduce you to Cypriot bread and pastry making. Discover how to make home-made bread using sourdough and how to prepare Cypriot olive pies and cheese pies. In the afternoon, you will enjoy an afternoon at your leisure (suggestions: self-visit of the capital Nicosia or self-guided trekking in the Machairas mountains or gentle walk to the Tamassos Dam).
For dinner, enjoy a menu with a “twist” at Peiragmena Restaurant in Lympia village. What a better way to conclude the gastronomic experience by tasting creative dishes at one of the best restaurants in Cyprus that offers a modern adaptation of Cypriot and Mediterranean cuisine by using only high-quality and fresh seasonal ingredients.

Maroulla grew up in the village of Pera Oreinis. Her parents had their own farm with goats and sheep and as a child, she grew up making traditional halloumi and anari cheese with her family for a living. She also learned to bake home-made bread and prepare pastries and traditional Cypriot dishes cooked with local ingredients. At Aperanti, she is leading the cooking classes, the halloumi cheese making, and the bread making workshop, as well as preparing home-made pastries for breakfast and delicious dishes for dinner.
Sara is the owner and manager of Aperanti Agrotourism. She is Italian and has been living in Cyprus since 2010. During your stay, she will be your host, guide, and cook. Sara prepares delicious jams, homemade liqueurs, citrus quash, all using biological fruits grown in their fields. She is passionate about creative cuisine and she will put her Italian touch in the dishes served at Aperanti. She is a biologist and will provide you with scientific insights behind cheese making and will teach you about the local flora and fauna during the excursion.
This holiday will take place in the picturesque village of Pera Orinis, Cyprus. it is only 20 minutes' drive from the Machairas mountains, 30 minutes' drive from the capital Nicosia and 45 minutes' drive from Larnaca International Airport. The village is located in a unique and diverse countryside. By walking the nature path that starts from the village and depending on the season, you find yourself surrounded by citrus fruit trees, almond flowers, giant olive trees, crops and poppies, prickly pear cactus plants and other.
The path leads you to the Tamassos dam, where you can relax and admire the mountains in the distance. At a short drive from the village, you can admire peculiar geological formations and canyons only found in this region of the island. If you prefer to cool down, the Machairas forest which is only 20 minutes' drive offers you several nature trails and picnic sites.
For people interested in cultural sightseeing, the archaeological site of ancient Tamassos and the monastery of Saint Irakleidios are within walking distance from the village. Some Byzantine churches (UNESCO heritage sites), such as Panayia tou Araka and Stavros tou Agiasmati are also in close proximity (30 to 45 minutes by car).
During this holiday, you will be served with daily breakfast at the agrotourism and it consists of the local products, freshly baked pastries with their own olives, home made cheese, home made jams and fresh fruits from the field. The first dinner will be at the agrotourism, a full course meal with fresh seasonal ingredients from their field and the touch of Italian flavor. Another dinner will be in in the village tavern enjoying a local meze, and the last dinner will be a real gourmet experience in one of the most creative restaurants in Cyprus.
Optional activities at the farm includes kayaking, archery, cycling, horse-riding (for experts only), and pony ride for children. You can also go for a guided trekking to the Foilani-Machairas Monastery in the nearby mountains to discover the local flora and wild herbs/plants and visit traditional mountain villages. There is an optional cooking lesson, you will learn how to make home-made jams, traditional liqueurs or olive products. You can also go for olive collection and visit to the olive mill to produce your own olive oil.
