I don't have words to describe this hotel. Besides the awesome location it's just about the most beautiful hotel I've ever seen! It was built for the British government and housed the British intelligence in the beginning of the century. It sure deserves a nightcap in the bar after coming from town. It is beautiful and romantic; awesome breakfast, great restaurant and bar. Too bad they don't serve light coca cola.

The Anantara is located in a nice spot with easy access to night markets and near the Old City. It is a calm, tranquil location on the river and a nice respite from the busy city of Chiang Mai. We enjoyed the grounds, as our kids could run in the grass and play in the pool after a long day of touring. The restaurants on site are wonderful as well!

I cannot fault anything about this hotel- the service, food, location and architecture where all amazing. It is set looking over the river, with reeds and flowers and ponds in the garden. The pool is extremely long and has been designed to fit into the garden beautifully. The hotel has the British consulate in the center - the building that is now the restaurant. They have used the history of this building to create an evening restaurant upstairs set in 1921, with a spy theme, which is quite fun - they even have a secret room behind a bookcase. The staff at the hotel are all extremely helpful and will do anything to ensure the stay is as perfect as possible. Food is also good, with a fantastic breakfast buffet and then 2 restaurants (Thai and the other international). If you do stay here, I would definitely recommend staying in a kasara room, as with these rooms you get access to the kasara lounge, which has free drinks and snacks all day and from 6-8 you are served canapés and drinks (adults only).

We had two rooms here for three nights. From the moment we were picked up at the airport until we were dropped off again we were pampered and looked after. Excellent service and fantastic spa - great massages. All the staff were extremely attentive and could not be faulted. We had a lovely dinner in the hotel one evening followed by drinks in the bar - an excellent end to a days sightseeing! If i had to pick one fault it is that we didn't stay longer!

This one of our favorite hotels we've ever stayed at. The architecture, design and landscaping of the hotel is simply stunning. The British embassy on site was beautifully renovated and added a lot of character to the hotel. There were a lot of little details that made this place special like fresh flowers everywhere and complimentary bottled water in the gym. The service was outstanding and genuine and the breakfast buffet was wonderful. Best of all its location means you're just steps away from great restaurants and the Chiang Mai night market. This is a perfect hotel in our opinion!

I had 5 great days in Chiang Mai with my family, the location in town is perfect, next to the river. Service is pragmatic and not overblown. They made us feel welcomed and attended to all our needs immediately. Restaurants are good to average but anyway you have so many food choices in Chiang Mai that if you dont have small children you would be going out there most of the time. They had a fantastic child menu but the only problem is that the portions were sometime too small so we have to order 4 dishes to satisfy our 6 and 4 year old girls.

We stayed at the Kasara suite for 3 nights. We can enjoy private check in, complimentary drinks all day as long as the lounge is open and alcoholic drinks at 6-8pm) at the private lounge! The lounge is nice; though during peak hours, it seems there was not enough staff serving guests. We went there for the alcoholic drinks every day during our stay. The Kasara suite is very big, we enjoyed our bathing time at the bath tub, with 3 different bath salt provided, so much! The bed is comfortable.Since there is a construction site right opposite to our room, we can clearly hear those noises in our room. Also, the lighting system is poor. The room is so dark even with all lights on! The breakfast buffet is excellent with a lot of variety! We can order some hot dishes like stir-fry pork with basils, banana pancakes with mango ice cream as well. All the food was just so wonderful! Valet parking service is available and free of charge. All staffs in the hotel are very nice and polite. We didn't go to the swimming pool as we think it is too small and located too close to the restaurant. We highly recommend the leisure travelers to stay in this hotel!

We stayed here for 2 nights in Kasara suite. The staffs were nice and hard working. We check in at the lounge. Kevin is the staff who helped out for check in. He was a very helpful guy with warm welcome. H e even got a boxing ticket for my husband on the same day. The outlook of the hotel is definitely nice and well maintained. But, there are some issues need to be upgraded. The Kasara suite is a huge suite with over 600 square feet, but with a queen size bed. This is hard to believe. The room inside really need to improve, especially the lighting system. You are hard to read with all the lights on. There are the Anantara residences building opposite side of the road and they work 7 days a week. Our room is located near the road. You will expect to hear the noise from the cars passing by. The breakfasts are very delicious with many choices. We had the table by the river everyday for our breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel during Thai New Year in April. The New Year water fight celebrations were manic and this hotel was a nice welcome relaxed retreat from the festivities. The pool and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. At night they light floating candles on all the ponds which is stunning. As for the room, we requested a river view, although we didn't pay for one, and we were given a room overlooking the pool and river, which was nice. The room had a nice open plan bathroom with bathtub and separate shower. There was a screen you could pull across if you wanted to.For the food, there is only one restaurant and a couple of bars. The pool menu is a bit expensive compared to other hotels in Thailand. The breakfast overlooking the river was great with a la carte and buffet. The portions where quite small for a la carte but, there was always the buffet too! The staffs were very helpful and are happy to arrange anything that you ask. They helped up to negotiate a price on transport, which was helpful. They were also helpful in printing out our boarding passes for further flights etc. I would highly recommend this hotel as a relaxing option while staying in a relatively busy city. It's also a great location to see the surrounding countryside. We did some nice hiking.

I stayed at the Anantara as a guest of someone so I won't comment on room tariffs. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and I slept really, really well. Be careful of the placement of the shelf that hosts the shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I hurt my elbow multiple times, but otherwise terrific. Also, don't leave the door to the balcony open. There lots of insects including mosquitoes. The repellant can is in the big drawer under the wardrobe. The breakfast buffet is neat! Steer clear of the benedict. It was strictly average. But, try the traditional Chiang Mai sausages and the eggplant bruschetta.I also visited the spa for two massages. Again, it was a terrific experience. Ask for Jee, she has particularly good technique. I was asleep in minutes. The pool is narrow and families with kids and toys come in the afternoon to frolic. That makes it harder to swim or find quiet surrounding. Finally, the restaurant has great grub. For a cheap spa tip, walk out the hotel, look for Mayuri on the left side about three-four doors down. I'm told reliably that their traditional Thai massage is excellent and just THB 200 an hour.
