The Italian region of Umbria is known as the Green Heart of Italy for so many reasons. The area boasts of peace and harmony with nature and autumn brings one of the most magical of its charms. The olive harvest is the highlight of the Umbrian year and, this year, Alla Madonna del Piatto invites you to share the joy as Letizia opens the doors of her beautiful bed and breakfast for a short break of enjoyment and celebration.
Alla Madonna del Piatto is a small eco-friendly bed and breakfast near Assisi, Italy. All rooms of the centuries-old farmhouse have magnificent views of the Umbrian green hills and of Assisi’s St. Francis basilica. Each of the six rooms of the historic bed and breakfast is tastefully decorated with wrought-iron beds, antique cabinets, and handmade fabrics.
Alla Madonna del Piatto has renovated the home with great attention to details and plenty of character. The two rooms on the ground floor are in the oldest part of the farmhouse and feature impressive stonewalls and beamed ceilings.
The first-floor rooms are bright and colorful with large windows. All rooms are equally comfortable and all offer breathtaking views of Assisi’s valley blanketed with meadows, forests, and olive groves. The vine-covered patio and terrace are perfect spots for al fresco picnics on summer evenings.
You will enjoy breakfast in the large sala that has been decorated with colorful local pottery. Alla Madonna del Piatto has a lounge area with an open fireplace and a comprehensive collection of pictures and guidebooks to help you plan your vacation.
This year’s olive harvest tour will find you fully immersed in the rural life of Umbria, enjoying one of the most pristine and off-the-beaten-path regions of Italy. Participating in one of Letizia’s celebrated cooking classes, you will refine culinary skills and taste the velvety wines of the Sagrantino di Montefalco region.
In the town of Assisi, you will meet a local artisan in the family historic printing workshop. You will also wander through quaint village alleys and visit the world famous Basilica of Saint Francis a spiritual and artistic site of immense importance. You will also have time to shop, to browse, and to appreciate the timeless atmosphere
You will learn all about olive oil, the area’s liquid gold, from picking to pressing and selling at a family run farm in the beautiful countryside near Bevagna.
Bring warm clothes during this holiday as evenings are cold in Umbria in the fall, including warm clothes for indoor tastings like the wineries, mills etc. Buildings in this area are heated but not overheated.
You'll enjoy a tour of Assisi including an historic print shop, olive farm, olive oil mill, and winery, and a visit of pretty Bevagna and Montefalco with your own transport. Be ready for a scenic drive! Private transport is available for an additional price, please request a quote.
