The Greek myth says that god Apollo worshipped, with special affection by Naxiots, his son Aristaios, who was an excellent cheesemaker, to teach the islanders the art of cheese making. Although tens of centuries have passed since then, Naxos, being an island blessed with fertile plains, abundant water resources, mountains with rich vegetation, and endless grazing lands, is still characterized by a particularly developed livestock sector and produces some of the best-known Greek cheeses.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Naxos Airport (or port) and private transfer to accommodation. Upon arrival, meet your hostess and settle in. You may want to go for a walk, or just relax. Dinner will be served around 9 p.m.

Day 2: Cooking class

Have breakfast. Many people believe that in order to know a place well, you need to know its everyday life, therefore, they will take you to a home in Kaloxylos to prepare a typical Greek meal with a housewife and her family! Then enjoy a great lunch with wine! The afternoon is free. Dinner is on your own.

Day 3: Cheese tour

Have breakfast. In the morning, be ready to experience firsthand authentic creamery. You will see how graviera and xinotiro are made. Lunch in a tavern is included. Then, head out to a vineyard to have a wine tasting. Dinner is on your own.

Day 4: The art of Greek sandals

Have breakfast. The art of making sandals is a present from the progenitor to the world classic fashion. You will get to witness the expert craftsman prepare and make a pair of Greek sandals from scratch. It will be an interactive, one-of-a-kind, session (morning) where they will demonstrate step-by-step how a greek sandal is crafted. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Day 5: Free day

Free day for individual activities. Suggestion: Visit Apiranthos village.

Day 6: Rustic bakery and picnic

Have breakfast at the hotel. Then, you will visit a traditional bakery and you'll cook all together a pie. You will watch the procedure of baking in the wooden oven. Then, stroll through the village of Kinidaros. 30 minutes later, go back to the bakery and choose other goodies from the bakery.

Then, have a picnic lunch in the oaks groove, very close to the oven. The menu includes cheese pie, local honey, handmade jam, a variety of cheeses, Greek yogurt, filtered coffee, juice, ham, bread, olives, eggs, and, of course, the goods that guests will choose from the bakery. The afternoon is free. Dinner is on your own

Day 7: Departure

After your last delicious breakfast, you'll be transferred to the airport/port.

Please note that the order of the activities can be, at times, subject to change.

Naxos is the most fertile island of Cyclades. Its products are known throughout Greece for their excellent quality, showing that the island is as the locals say a blessed place. In the south of Naxos, the inhabitants cultivate the famous Naxian potato and other fruits and vegetables. In the north part of the island, they cultivate vineyards and produce exquisite wine.

Naxos is also famous for its olive oil production. On the island over 400,000 olive trees are planted, of which 200,000 are in the basin of Tragaia. In the mountains, hundreds of goats and sheep are raised, while cows are raised mainly in the lowland. From their milk, the famous Naxian cheese is made: graviera, kefalotyri, xynotiri, and xynomyzithra.

As the Naxian like having fun, they accompany their festivities by their local citrus liqueur from the distillation of the leaves of citron, cultivated only in the fertile lands of Naxos. Naxos has also great mineral wealth such as the emery and the marble, which are internationally recognized for their quality.

From the boat, one can see the entire western coastline of Naxos, with the steep rocky mountains plunging into the Aegean Sea. The entrance to the port of Naxos is unlike any other. In a few moments, the visitor can get a clear idea of the island’s rich historical background, its grandiose towers, its strong religious ties, its agricultural heritage, and its recent tourist development. But the island’s true magnificence lies in every monument, every village, and every beach.
