Naxos is the most fertile island of Cyclades. Its products are known throughout Greece for their excellent quality, showing that the island is as the locals say a blessed place. In the south of Naxos, the inhabitants cultivate the famous Naxian potato and other fruits and vegetables. In the north part of the island, they cultivate vineyards and produce exquisite wine.
Naxos is also famous for its olive oil production. On the island over 400,000 olive trees are planted, of which 200,000 are in the basin of Tragaia. In the mountains, hundreds of goats and sheep are raised, while cows are raised mainly in the lowland. From their milk, the famous Naxian cheese is made: graviera, kefalotyri, xynotiri, and xynomyzithra.
As the Naxian like having fun, they accompany their festivities by their local citrus liqueur from the distillation of the leaves of citron, cultivated only in the fertile lands of Naxos. Naxos has also great mineral wealth such as the emery and the marble, which are internationally recognized for their quality.
From the boat, one can see the entire western coastline of Naxos, with the steep rocky mountains plunging into the Aegean Sea. The entrance to the port of Naxos is unlike any other. In a few moments, the visitor can get a clear idea of the island’s rich historical background, its grandiose towers, its strong religious ties, its agricultural heritage, and its recent tourist development. But the island’s true magnificence lies in every monument, every village, and every beach.
Daily fresh breakfast, one dinner, two lunches, and one picnic are included. Wine will be served with one of the lunches and there's a wine tasting on Day 3.
Day 5 is a free day for individual activities. You can visit Apiranthos Village.
