Today youll journey through the centre of the North Island on the Thermal Explorer Highway.
Time permitting, you may make several stops along the way. Youll pass through: Hamilton, a city known for its gardens, riverboat cruising and free flight aviary; the antique town of Tirau; Rotorua, where you can explore geothermal attractions and discover the unique culture of New Zealands Maori people; and Taupo, a trout fishing mecca that sits on the edge of New Zealands largest lake.
Your final destination is Napier, a place to enjoy Art Deco architecture and fine wine. The Thermal Explorer Highway is part of the Great New Zealand Touring Route.

Your skipper will provide you with your sandboards and safety. This is a self guided trip, however the cost of equipment is included. Bike the vines: This enjoyable day of cycling and wineries starts with a pick-up from your accommodation in the morning and drop-off at the starting point. After ensuring that you are set up with bikes and helmets you'll set off for a relaxing day of touring the local wineries. The pace is leisurely and the terrain is gentle, ensuring easy riding. The off road riding through the vineyards and along the stop-banks is across hard packed earth covered with grass or gravel and is easy to bike by all skill levels. Bungy Jump: Kawarau Bridge - The world's first commerical bungy site! The Kawarau Bridge Bungy - home to the original 43-metre (142ft) Bungy Jump. If you've heard of Bungy, you've heard of Kawarau. The world's first and most infamous of leaps is still going strong, with tens of thousands Bungying each year. At the world's best-loved Bungy site, you can choose from a number of options; topple over backwards, forwards, with another person, spin or somersault. Routeburn Track One Day Guided Walk: Your walk begins among towering ancient beech trees and blankets of moss and fern, climbing gradually and skirting the thundering Routeburn River. Just 90 breathtaking minutes later the woodland parts to reveal the rich grassland of Routeburn Flats, overlooked by cloud-scraping mountain stacks. A short stride through more alpine forest, the walk continues to climb through a vast alpine meadow to the Harris Saddle, some 1300 metres above sea level. High up in the clear mountain air a 360-degree view looks out along the Hollyford Valley to the Tasman Sea, and inland.
The Ride of the Rings Horse Trekking: This amazing 1.5 hour horse ride takes place in Paradise, near Glenorchy, overlooking a World Heritage Area. Winding through the golden woods of Lothlrien, passing Amon Hen, the ride climbs to 2000 feet above sea level. From here the views over Isengard, the Wizard's Vale and the mighty peak of Methedras are breathtaking. As a walking paced ride it's suitable for beginner riders, and a ride of a lifetime for 'Lord of the Rings'/'Hobbit' fans and movie buffs. *Can be combined with The River Wild to form a full day tour. For the well being of the horses, there is a 210 lb weight limit.
The Trilogy Loop Horse Trekking: Follow the trail of Sarumans army as they departed Isengard on this epic 3-hour horseback ride. With breathtaking views of The Misty Mountains, Wizards Vale and the Mighty Methedras, the Trilogy Loop encompasses both the Rees and Dart River Valleys. There are several river crossings and magnificent views towards the head of Lake Wakatipu with plenty of opportunities for some faster paced riding. Some riding experience is required - not suitable for complete beginners. Can be combined with Ride of the Rings for a trip through the golden woods of Lothlrien, Amon Hen, and the 'Golden Mile'.
The River wild horse trekking: This is a beautiful two hour horse trek with river crossings and magnificent views of The Misty Mountains and Lake Wakatipu. The ride is suitable for all levels of rider and is the best option for mixed ability couples and groups who are not experienced enough to join The Trilogy Loop, but can or want to learn to ride.
